Default Exhaust Pipe Clamp (rear)

I recently read a thread which indicated when installing the rear clamp of the exhaust system it should have a piece of rubber between the clamp & frame.

Has there been such a thread recently that indicated this an if so was this originally done or a fix to a problem?

Thanks for any information.

I don't if thats how its supposed to be or not.

I stick a chunk of hard rubber between the clamp and frame. I also wrap a chunk of asbestos between the the pipe and clamp. Then leave it clamped loose enough to let it move around a bit.

Tom - Yes i saw that in the Service Bulletins but thought it would be a good idea as I'm in
the process of changing the exhaust manifold and of course that will have to be
loosened. Thanks for your response.

Patrick L. Thank you also for your response. Sure appreciate it.

Not stock, but it does work. It's called an isolator.

Looks like a suspension mount from a 65 OMC Snow Cruiser.

I used something like this for my truck available from any of the auto supply stores.

It's the only thing on my truck not stock... but I no longer have any vibration or noise.

FYI that big rivet likes to work loose - ive bought about 4 of those over the years for my moderns and every time after a few months I feel/see the exhaust hanging with the rubber still attached up top and the bracket clamped to the exhaust with no rivet in sight... 1/4-20 bolt and some washers fix that...

if your really feeling cheap / creative you can make one out of an old tire tread and an L bracket...

dont get me wrong though they do work really well and do isolate all noise
