Re: gas gauge
You're probably going to be better off by draining the tank and REPLACING the gaskets (use cork), and reassemble. If you're still running a cork float and opportune time to replace it with the new style float. Disconnect the battery BEFORE draining tank. JMO

Re: gas gauge
there is a rebuild kit for the guage . drain the gas down to like 1/2 tank & you can pull the guage , replace gaskets & reinstall .

Re: gas gauge
thank you 1931, in order to remove the gauge and float unit does the tank need to be completely drained? or just below 1/2, and does the unit come out of the front of the tank? thanks again wayne

Re: gas gauge
Sometimes the nuts are very tight and you need to press inward very hard while unscrewing the outer nut. Then you'll have the complete unit come out the front, and you can remove the float arm, and slip the unit over the edge of a 3/4" board in a vice. This will give good support to remove the inner nut. I've had to soak the inner nut with Kroil before it would loosen. Use cork gaskets on the fuel gauge.

Re: gas gauge
a little filing or sanding on the aluminum tool will help it fit better.

Re: gas gauge
thanks, the spanner (inner) seems to fit rather well, I have not tried the outer one as yet, I as well as all of us are used to making these after market stuff work.wayne
