Good bearing?
Ok so I am putting together a spare tranny and since I am putting new gears in, I thought I would check out the bearings. This is what I found: left is from the input shaft, center is long one from cluster and then short from cluster. I think the long cluster is an original and the other two are repops. Don’t remember the history ask got it at a swap meet years ago. Any ideas?
Also, is the cluster gear toast? The pitting is only on one side of the teeth, so if that is the back up side I won’t care as much. Just curious, on these small surface would JB Weld hold up? I think it now just a back up gear and I need a new one. I think it will work but just as an emergency gear. Mike

'Art',
If you don't have a radio in the car, that cluster gear will certainly sing to you. jb |

Re: Good bearing?
Yeah that is what I was thinking. So it will sit on a shelf until I can get another. Are they made in the USA or China now?

Re: Good bearing?
You could make a lamp out of that cluster gear. I chucked mine and it looked a little better than that one, but not by much.
Those bearings might be okay? Hard to tell from the picture. I think Bert's has some NORS ones if you need some. I know MARK makes the sliding gears, I assume they make the cluster gears as well. Now, if they make them in NJ or outsource production overseas is beyond me. |

Re: Good bearing?
What difference does it make? The Chinese will supply whatever the buyer wants and usually, the buyer wants to pay the minimum so they can get the greatest markup and profit. Poor quality goes hand in hand with low price so if an item is of Chinese origin and of poor quality, it not the fault of the Chinese - it is the fault of the buyers who clearly haven't been specific enough when ordering and haven't bothered with quality control. In addition, just because something is made in the US, doesn't mean it is good quality.

Re: Good bearing?
At the Rouge transmission assemblers hand fit sliding gears to cluster gears, one spot where Ford didn't master interchangeability. Your parts are junk,btw..

Re: Good bearing?
He must have found some as I ordered two of each. The shorts were NOS and the longs were used originals. Once I get those then all I will need is a cluster gear and I will have the quietest tranny on the block!
Thanks for all of the tips. Mike
