head studs are really no problem to this latest flathead builders, the engine is taken apart maybe every year or every other year, the studs do not have enough time to really corrode enough to seize to the head, especially if the stud is sealed at the block, if no water can weep up the stud there will be no corrosion

I see many blocks with cracks around some of the stud holes. Are bolts safe in those holes?

I was kinda thinking the same thing, not that they would break, but it seems you would get a better seal by putting aviation permatex on a stud and installing, then let it set before putting the head on.
If you used a bolt in the same hole you would torque it before the permatex set.
