Lets not forget this day in Dallas 49 years ago.

I well remember that day Max. I was on a US Navy Destroyer patrolling the Taiwan Straights when we received that news and the entire 7th Fleet went to General Quarters ready for combat. We were not sure what was going to happen.

Who would have thought all the years later we still wouldn't be sure of what happened and why. I was a junior in high school, sitting in Physics class when they told us.

Much-less-importantly, later that evening I purchased my first car, a '39 DeLuxe Tudor. One of those dates when everybody's lives changed dramatically. DD

I was a 9 year old and still remember the announcement over the PA system in class. WE were all scared. I had a Cub Scout meeting that afternoon and my dad was very late picking me up. I stood by the road waiting and felt like I was all alone in the world. WE all lost a big chunk of our innocence that day.....

I was walking across the campus of the University of Cincinnati when I heard. I was very surprised that there was no mention of it today in the newspaper or TV news.

I'm thinking that everyone that was old enough to have any memory of that day can still remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard. Kinda like 9/11. I sure can.

I was in Miss Allen's 5th grade class at Francis Lacy Elementary School in Raleigh, NC. She rushed into the class after her break, told us Kennedy had been shot, and broke down crying.

I actually had forgotten about it until now. I guess as the population that remembers that day gets smaller and smaller then one of these days no one will remember.
I was in the school lunchroom when it was announced. I did not know what to think about the unthinkable.

OMG. How could I have forgotten? Yes, you're right. History is important to those who lived through it. My day was spent with family... Grandchildren who think WWll was the Civil War. We all want the young to honor our history, but they will have plenty of their own to honor by the time they're our age.

I too can remember clearly. I had just turned 21 and started my designer job at Ford Motor Engine Division. I was standing at my drawing board and one of the guys came over and said....hey kid....Kennedy just got it in Dallas. The room of 200 men fell silent ! It was a solemn moment for sure. I can remember calling my best friend Ed who is a barner here and talking about it. He also was working at Ford in Styling at the time. Hard to think its been 49 years !

I was in grade two at the time and can remember that day quite well. Even here, in Canada people were shocked and grieving on that terrible day.
