Default 1941 Ford Truck Wiring Harness

I need to replace my original harness due to age and a lot of add-ons that were tapped in over the years. I have been looking around for an original - spec harness but so far no luck.

I spoke the the tech support at Rhode Island wiring and they do not have the specifications to make a 41 harness, but they do have one for a '40.

Questions:

Is the 40 & 41 truck harness the same ?

I have a new '40 standard car harness. Is this the same as a '40 truck ? I think that it may be close enough to make with some minor mods. I've re-wired several cars and I am not too concerned either way, I am pretty sure I can make it work.

I am going to lay it all out on the garage and see this weekend, but would appreciate any input from someone more familiar with the wiring.

Thanks -

Here are the diagrams. Some of the differences I am noticing are Ammeter vs Voltmeter, Single Circuit Breaker vs Two Circuit Breakers. This is Truck vs Car diagrams. The 46-48 Truck diagram looks fairly close except for the Ammeter/Voltmeter.

When I was looking to rewire my '39 p/u I heard good things about Sacramento Vintage Ford. I ended up going with a Rebel Wire universal loom but you might give Sacramento Vintage Ford a call.

Thanks for the information and the diagrams. My truck is a nice old survivor and I want to stay as close to stock as possible and not use a modern harness.

Y&Z in Redlands, CA will make you a brand new harness that will look like Henry made it. They can customize it to add turn signals, etc. if need be.

You can make your '40 harness work with some fussing. Does the truck have an amp meter or a voltmeter ? If an amp meter just cut the voltmeter wire and add terminals.
With the price of a new harness rather high I would use the '40 stuff. I don't think you're going after a V8 club award.

If you look at the diagrams there are a lot of differences in the way the two different years are wired up. It is correct that the 40 harness could be used, however it would take a lot of reworking to get anywhere close to the way a 41 is wired. It is not something I would recommend unless you are just trying to get something to work and don't really care about the end product. Now the 46-48 harness would work with a little rework.

I would go with Tyree Harris. I have bought harnesses from him for my 39 sedan and my 45 truck. He made them with turn signals for me, too. It depends upon what you are looking for.

Ditto Tyree Harris. My 53 is also a completely stock survivor but the wiring was so old and degraded I considered it unsafe. Tyree' s harness is a work of art. I couldn't be happier with his product and knowledge.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've got a call into Tyree to check on the harness. Looks like I'll be selling a brand-new reproduction '40 standard car harness. I'll pull together an ad here soon - PM me if there is any interest. It's high quality, new, and is the cloth-covered plastic wiring harness.

Here is a snapshot of my truck. Overall it's pretty solid, but the wiring is a mess. The turn signals and trailer wiring are constructed out of stranded electrical extension cord wiring that is grafted into the original harness. It's a mess, but it all works. I don't want to risk a fire or have it be unreliable, so I am just going to replace it all with new.

Great looking truck! I just picked up an original 41' this year and am in the process of doing the same thing. I bought the 41-42 truck harness from Joe's and I'm happy with the original looking quality but have not swapped it out yet. Mine too was a mess, way too many areas that were bare and abandoned add-ons.
