Mitch,
You are the type of person that makes our hobby, this site, and all the people safer, grateful and allow us to enjoy the cars we love. This is a very nice thing you did. Craig |

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
Mitch,
Sure appreciate you taking care of my friends from the Cape like that. And I'm sure Paul appreciates it also. Yes, that is their FIRST national and the crazy thing is that it was my idea to go to Lexington but I have had engine problems also so I backed out. Thanks again for being so nice. Re: Need help!!! Please!!
Hmm, I'll take the first guess... clutch disc binding on the spline shaft, due to misalignment of the clutch to the machined Flywheel?

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
A picture would help me guess.
I'm sure the disc wasn't installed backwards. Maybe a spring popped out of the disc? An arm broke on the pressure plate? The lining tore loose and doubled up? How about a clue...........can it be fixed with duct tape? |

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
The input shaft could have broken, just in front of the large front transmission bearing. I had that happen once.

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
before removal i checked linkage pins etc and noticed that one of the three pressure plate arms was just flopping around not doing its job to disengage the clutch. but upon further inspection of that particular arm i could not see why. we pulled the trans from the back end leaving everything attached. (the flat rate way)..put the fork lift under the differential unbolted everything and slid it back as an attached unit with trans connected to the torque tube. dropped out the clutch which looks brand new like right out of the box no heat scorches or wear. the flywheel looked just as good with a nice crosshatch pattern as does the clutch plate. each of the 3 fingers pivot on a metal pin held in by a tiny snap ring. one of the snap rings came off and the pin walked its way out. the pins are knurled under the heads to make it a slight pressed fit but it really seems like a chinsy design. we reinstalled the pin and got a new snap ring and put a tiny tack weld on each of the 3 pins so even if the snap rings broke again the pin cant fall out.
here are the pics showing the flat rate R&I,,,the clutch plate disassembled with the pin hanging out.. Last edited by Mitch//pa; 06-24-2013 at 10:22 PM. |

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
i would put a tiny tack on the other end on every one. i would never trust that tiny snapring and the groove for it is very shallow

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
Is that the clutch disk that fails due to missing upset of metal around the springs?

Re: Need help!!! Please!!
Mitch, Doesn't the V8 pressure plate use any heat insulators on the springs to keep the heat from the pressure plate from transferring to the springs?
