Mr. Robert Paul Ripped OFF!!!

Hey All,
I got word yesterday that Mr. Paul's shop was broken into and his equipment that he used for rebuilding lever shocks was stolen. His phone number is being re-routed to a relative who is calling people back. Mr. Paul is shocked and devastated.
Robert lives in a remote area of Colorado and has been rebuilding lever shocks for Model A guys for a long time from what I gather. These jackasses have stolen from a really really nice man. I was told that the police have let the thieves escape due to a mistake on their part just to add insult to injury.
If you know him, he might appreciate a call from you or any other support.

Given the Model A is closer to a horseless carriage in ways than a car; these guys are closer to like horse thieves --and we all know what they use to do to them... I hope they get these low lifes!

My thoughts to him and I am sure he feels so violated.
There are many sad and devastating angles here. End of the day, since shocks and equipment are "weighty", it was likely stolen for poundage at the local scrap yard! Sad for Robert and humans in general. Seems we keep going down in fast spirals as people. Huuum, Bible tells us about our own nature!

When minutes count - the police are just hours away.

Glad Mr. Paul was not hurt. Anyone desperate enough to take another's property is desperate enough to hurt another to get it.

And not to minimize - tools can be replaced.

But not the trust - which is the biggest loss of all.

I talked with Robert right after the first post and he was still trying to figure out what was gone. It sounded like the sheriff botched this one. They don't do much on thefts these days. Too many to bother with them!!!

Drug use/abuse isn't political, both sides of the fence has users and sellers. I agree with H.L. Chauvin's comment from his judge friend. That stuff is poison and no good to anybody but the sellers who are raking in huge profits and ruining lives.

Part of the problem is where he lives. I talked to a lady that was recieving his forwarded calls, not long after it happened. They thought they knew who did it, and knew where they were, but the problem is the Sherriffs Dept is an hour away and they didn't know if they would get there in time. I have not heard back yet.....

yea about a bucks worth of bullets would solve alot of problems....

i think every state should have castle law.

Around me with the devastation last november with that tornado there were looters and scrap people stealing peoples stuff hours after the tornado flattened several hundred homes...

Sorry to hear that , about all his work tools being taken..bummer. How is a man to make a living without his tools..sad indeed!
A model a friend called me a few days ago to say that his construction work trailer had been busted into and all his work tools...about 8k/10k $ worth taken during the night ! He was right in the middle of doing a job. The man had enough trouble and didn't need this bs. His wife took his two girls and left him recently and he got notice now that he has to move. Talk about piling on,eh! He ask me come with truck to take Model A parts, as he didn't want to junk them. Told him that I'd store them for him. He said no, that thieves had also stolen some of that stuff and that he was done with for now...sad ! Do not feel right about taking the model a parts, but he is serious about junking, as he has no time for that now.....

BTW...they like their drugs out here on the left coast and (get this)have businesses all over the neighborhoods that sell that crap....and they have BIG green crosses at the front of the business that plainly adverts for the drugs !!

Amazing Hardtimes. And the Midwest especially Missouri and Tennessee down south are the meth capitals of the country according to the news recently.

I wonder how much of that loot is being laundered at the big money auctions for antique and muscle cars a regular working guy sure couldn't pony up that kind of cash for a hobby car! We'll never know.........

He called me earlier this week and said he's back at work (I don't have details as it was on my cell in a marginal service zone). I'm sending him a bunch of old shocks in unknown condition and we're going to see what he can do. Right now he's working on his backlog.

Part of the reason the Victorian age was like it was was because those Victorians had seen human nature at it's lowest. With no FDA, no drug laws, no government restraint AT ALL, the Victorians put social morays in their place instead. We may be, perhaps should be put back to that era.

One was publicly ostracized if one was found on drugs or drug reliant.

This is the age of "a gentleman's word is his bond" for a reason. The Victorians had to know among themselves who exactly they could trust - and they relied on reputation.

Think the attitude of "that old psalm singing bitch" Rose Sayer (played by Katherine Hepburn) in "The African Queen."

It would seem in the case of Mr. Paul that some have not risen too far. And that rule of might and not rule of right rules some still.

A few weeks back, I called and left a message for Mr. Paul offering my thoughts/prayers and to see if I could be of help in any way. He returned my call a short time later and said he was indeed back at work and was very touched by the gesture.

I think he'd appreciate knowing that the Model A community is 'rooting' for him...if you get a chance, give him a call.
