Default coil polairty

on a 6v positive ground system does the ign wire go to the -neg and the pos go to the distributor or vice versa

The ignition wire from the coil to the distributer matches your battery ground. The wire from the coil to the points is the ground path for the coil. So, yes, on a (+) ground car the distributor wire connects to the (+) terminal on the coil.

I use one of the Nurex Sparklite polarity testers. I don't trust the coil manufacturers much anymore. https://www.nurex.com/sparklite
