Early to mid 1928 Tudor Sedans out there?
Does anyone have or know of a early to mid 1928 (January-August) Tudor Sedan? I am in need of some information of of that car. Must be original, unrestored...Heck, just the body will do wonders.

In general, what kind of data are you looking for? My cousin has one stored in a nasty garage. It Hasen't seen the light of day for thirty years. Sadly he just likes to say that he has it. I would love to have an excuse to check it out.

I have a August 20, 1928 Tudor that was built in Chicago. I have owned it for over 40 years. What do you need to know? Mine was very original when I purchased it in 1970.....

Steve my February 14 1928 2 door sedan 24981 was at Niagara Falls. The original interior looks like it would have in 1940.The only ware is at the left foot rest .I know i can answer your early 1928 questions .

Steve, It's 2017, late May and I finally get on the FB chat. I have a early May '28 AR Tudor and the only things that have changed are the clutch assembly, front mount (original frame was cut down) a new core on the rad, the roof was replaced, and side(plastic covered material) by the previous owner while the damaged interior cloth was redone, by me. The 5 piece braking system is still there, original AR drums (machined) and brakes (new parts where required). Float-a-motor engine mounts installed, the differential was overhauled after it swallowed a pinion gear tooth (drove it home). It's on its 5th engine (2 were 'B' blocks that cracked) over 46,000 summer miles have been recorded, since 1986.
I installed a new header board (original was rotten), 2 new safety side window glass (old were original tempered), re-nickeled the rad shell, both headlight buckets & rings and rear tail light shell, re-silvered the original HL reflectors, installed a new headliner, repaired/tuned up the original electric wiper motor, powerhouse generator, starter, distributor and other minor parts and pieces around the car. When the new judging standards came out I compared my Tudor to about 700 period correct items listed. My conclusion is that my car is not what someone assumes the early A should be it's the original. It had points plugs condenser fan belt replaced I still have the original except for the plugs. The glass was replaced along with the channels and windshield rubber to get a better score at Gettysburg. The plating was done over 30 years ago but not installed until 2014 when the car was brought out of a 57 year rest . The car was brush painted in the early 1950s the hood and cowl had been stripped to bare metal. I had the car repainted. The original top moldings were removed and top was secured with tape . I replaced the top . The interior was only used until March 1928 in great condition still has the original strings on the rear shade. The only thing inside not original is the door check straps . Dawn grey dark car was only one color had a straw pin strip . Engine number 24981 no firewall number ,plant number A16455 steering column number 14678 manufacture date February 14 1928

Dan's car was built at Chicago Assy., that is cool.
Chicago is still cranking them out, building Explorers today. Our '67 Galaxie convt. was built there in Nov. 1966. Look at all the assembly plants from the Model A era that no longer exist. Twin Cities closure was a mistake when Ford stopped building the Ranger pickup, another huge mistake. Stopping Crown Vic production, the best cop-taxi car ever built, another BIG mistake. Now Ford has an ex-furniture man as CEO. I don't see how they can hang on very long into the future. Ford has a history of running to the bottom, just when it looks like the lites are going out they hit a home run, do great, then implode again and drop way down it's the same old cycle goes back to the Model T era. Dennis,
The plant numbers can appear anywhere on the front steel body cross member. This is the steel cross member that the front horizontal wooden floorboard sits into at its rear side. Some were even stamped into the drivers side rail in the door opening area. The stamps used vary in size from on plant to another as does the orientation of the stampings. Dave |

Dave, I've tried to find the body stamp on our Roadster unfortunately there was some pitting on the metal here and it doesn't want to show.
I've tried rubbing the area light with chalk and wiping it down, have rubbed it with WD-40 and 3-in-1 oil, no luck. Anyone have another method to try and get this to show up? Thanks |
