Default OK, things will get back to normal now.

The relatives are gone, the house is a mess, and I'll really get some sleep tonight.
Call me a grinch, but Christmas is not what it used to be for me. I remember when kids were excited, and were actually grateful for the presents recieved. I remember when the UPS driver wasn't agressively lobbying for his gratuity by giving out christmas cards bearing his personal name and address. I remember when folks would bundle up and crowd in front of the Macys window watching the Christmas diorama. Who today would think that worthy of putting yourself in danger of getting mugged? Who today looks forward to going shopping for anything in December?

On the other hand, there's my wife. She has nineteen apple crates full of Christmas decorations that must be taken down from the loft every year. She knows if something is missing, too. I'm forbidden to pack them up until after New Year. Yes, I have to pack them up, because if she did it, it would take till April and I'd need twelve more apple crates.

I guess it's not so bad. I'm a year older, still kickin', and life is good.

Happy New Year!

Hey Alan, we have all that problem solved. We never take any decorations down, even the outside lights.

Alan, I'll comply with your lament, For some unknown reason (to me at least) a lot of things/events, not just Christmas, are not what our memory evokes however, I always look forward to those special holidays/events and now, I have a grandson to enjoy them with! Hope you had a Merry Christmas and wish you and all FordBarner's a Happy New Year. Vic

Lot of similarities here. My wife keeps all her Christmas decorations packed away in totes and they are kept above the bathroom out in my shop (No wasted space out there. We made a storage area above), I get the privilege of bringing it all in for her every year!

I love Christmas but I am usually ready for it to be over once the gifts are opened, the kids leave to go home and the day winds down.

Now my wife gets to take everything down and pack it away and I get the haul it back out to the shop!

Hey, I did get some Ford wrenches for Christmas! Thanks dear!!

I am. She does the packing and I have the fun of taking the totes and boxes up this small ladder into the attic. I have offered to help pack but I think she's afraid I will break something if it's not packed correctly. I told her I used to pack duffle bags really good when I was in the Air Force but she didn't buy that.

I get to dig it all out from under the stairs ( Raised ranch ) and bring 10 totes, plus the fake tree upstairs. She decorates, sets the tree up and I string the lights. I am not allowed to touch anything other than the lights. Fine with me! It's just the digging out and putting back that kills me....
THis year was special for us as my new Grandaughter ( 5 weeks ) was here for her first Christmas. I held her and it took me back down memory lane to 31 years ago and my first child. Christmas comes too fast and is over in lightning speed. But enjoy it when it comes and while it's here........

Your right Barry, the grandkids make it special!! Congrats on the new granddaughter!

This was our 6 month old granddaughter's first Christmas and it was fun watching her tear the paper yesterday!

Just to help some of you guys out when you're thinking you've got a big re-pack/put away job ...............................imagine this (pic below)

My neighbor would put this whole rigging up each year (with a little help from some of us in the 'hood). Once the last of their 3 kids moved out a few years back they stopped. It was fun while it lasted. Just to give a sense of scale, those crossed candy canes in the left rear are about 12' tall.

I can deal with the decorating, shopping, unpacking, packing, wrapping, tre es,lights, etc. What drives me nuts is the repetitive music. It seems there has been only about twelve Christmas songs ever written. From Dec.1 to Dec.26 I have to listen to them over and over again no matter where I go.
OK. I feel better now. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

I'm thinking you all might enjoy a re-run of Yogi Yorgesson's "I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas" from 1949: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4uW2PT-190

About the time you start to get a "Grinch" on, volunteer for something like a soup kitchen or food bank. Or maybe a docent at the zoo or maybe volunteer at the area's children's hospital. Do it for just a couple of days. The warmth and appreciation you'll experience will absolutely get/keep you in the Christmas spirit. It won't be long before you'll want to do it for more than those couple of days.

And even better still, whatever you're celebrating, do it the whole year thru.....that's 365 days......"love thy neighbour".....don't covet his possessions and leave his wife alone.

No need to have December 25th to show what you're made of....or should be.

And slightly off topic......here's David Cameron, our prime minister, telling our soldiers who are about to leave Helmand that they've done a great job....call me a cynic?

We have 3 little kids in our house, it was great to see Christmas through their eyes. The total decorating I did outside was I parked my rpu on the front porch and wrapped some lights around the front end. Inside was just the tree and stockings, nothing extravagant.

we have been married for 48 years ..(18 years old) we have had 48 REAL Christmas trees and lights etc with our 2 children and 3 grandchildren , every year before Christmas I tell my wife we will tone it down this year and get a fake tree and just a few lights but I know what is expected of us and the family would be disappointed and maybe think we have gone soft so this year as always the £50 tree was bought along with more outside lights and it looks just great and even after spending 2 days doing the work its still satisfying and the family love it and the real fire finishes it off .my family have just gone home after chrismas day and boxing day with them, ( our american friends can google boxing day if they have no idea what it is )food ,drink ,games and a great 2 days ....I,m sure I will be a Grinch again around the start of December but it will be same again next year (god willing),deep down we love it but at the back of my mind is sadness for the old and lonely and absent friends and family......to all barners and ford v8 lovers , good health ,good oil pressure and good compression for 2014 .....cheers jim.

Hmmm....my wife and I are thinking 'Cruise' next Christmas....

No decorating, no cooking, no fuss, just show up at the boat and get on board.

This Christmas was a special one for our family as our oldest daughter and her husband adopted a little girl from China. They just returned home today with her so Christmas was a day late, but well worth it. Lilianna is her name and she makes our 13th grandchild. We are blessed.

It was indeed a good Christmas for me and my family...Most importantly was the time with family, Skyped with my son, me the wife and 3 daughters helped assemble 3000 meals for the needy, and today we hand delivered 10 blankets to homeless people. Merry Christmas to all!
