Default hood springs

having a hell of time installing new hood springs on my 46 ford pick up,is there a trick or a tool to streach them out,we tryed and with brake spring pliers but still need to go another 1.5 inches,springs were purchesed from mac's...any help appreciated thanks al

I hook a piece of chain on the hook of the spring and stretch it over the hinge. Make sure the chain link goes to the outside for removal.

Wear eye protection.

Usually one handle end of the brake spring pliers has a groove in it . I hook the groove end thru the bottom loop of the spring and then under the bottom post and force the spring down over it. Works good on the '40.
