I see the number around 120. Guessing its because the time of year? Maybe there is a supply shortage? lol also seeing less cars and parts on CL in the last 6 months....... maybe people converted to FB? |

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
I see them on the Facebook interest groups a lot, but I don't know if they're making a successful sale. A lot of it seems to be sales on behalf of deceased owners and the prices are all over the map. The CL market has almost completely vanished around here.

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
I agree Alex about CL. though I do make a sale now and then for a few small things.
I have put a few things on FB and they blew right out. Ebay has also worked well as of late, though not so much in the past. |

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
Fb Marketplace is nice because you can see the sellers profile, not that it may not be total bs, but generally it's pretty accurate. Craigslist has gotten to be a total crapshoot. I still enjoy taking my junk to a swapmeet to sell. I have yet to sell on Ebay but my wife will attest to the fact that I do my share of buying there.
Not many Model A's on listed locally here, but they are out there people seem to rely on word of mouth instead of dealing with the masses. |

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
I don't do Facebook, so that market is not available to me. I scan Craig's List in multiple cities and can attest to the fact that the number of cars listed is in decline. It may be due to the time of year. I will take a peek at eBay occasionally, not recently. High end cars seem to sell for a lot of money on Bring A Trailer but the normal run of the mill cars go for a normal price. The best way to buy a car seems to be, as Colonial said, word of mouth. Asking through the local clubs also seems to be a good way to buy.

BAT seems to reach BJ pricing, for the most part. once inawhile, a deal slips through.
after spending a week looking, I usually move on. Auctions have never been my friend, though Im sure others have stories to tell....... |

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
I would think that the CL decline is due to the fact that they are charging for each auto listing.
good point, but 5. really??????????? |

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
I sell a variety of things and CL is much less of a player than before.
Usually list on FB first and then CL if it doesn't sell quickly. eBay for higher priced easily shippable items only. Free stuff usually goes in a heartbeat, although I had 43 Spanish-language National Geographics that languished for 3 months before I gave up and put them in the recycle bin.

I have hundreds of player piano rolls available but will probably wind up feeding the fireplace.

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
Thanks Guys! You've cleared my head about cars and car parts in general. I've got my ads on AACA and I'm getting lots of Lookers (110 in two weeks), but no offers, inquiries, hellos, Nothing! This is not only model A s, But other stuff as well. I won't renew the ads or bother with new ones, the time and climate are just not right to sell.

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
Terry, I would give another go in the spring.
I sold 5-6cars in 2021 and they went fast on the bay- they were mostly projects, but desireable in a 37 cord, 67 camaro convertible, nice all original 29 rpu and a basket case 30 cabrio. and a slapped together speedster and jalopy PU. timing is everything. I sold 3 cars on the bay 3 yrs ago and all went MIA. No response whatsoever and of course, ebay doesnt care- they recd their fees from me upfront. they dont even let you relist for free- they want a 2nd helping from your pocket. with that said, I buy on ebay every week, but rarely sell there, unless its cars. smalls arent worth the hefty 15% in ebay fees and time to list- for me. |

Re: Model As for sale on the bay............
I recently sold a motorcycle on CL, so it still works. I listed on Facebook and CL and sold on CL. To me the $5 fee is nothing. I think they instituted the fee because dealers were listing tons of cars there, so they figured out a way to keep out the freeloaders and generate a little revenue. I have a modern car to sell soon, so I will list on CL and Facebook. I have not tried Ebay, yet.
I sell things on CL, Facebook and Ebay. I get buyers on each, so it's hard to know which is best, but I think Facebook works best for me these days. Many things I am just trying to unload and I figure a few bucks is better than nothing. When I want to give something away, I use CL. I live in an urban area, but I can usually give just about anything away. Better than throwing it in the trash.
