Default Lifter grinding thread, recent

OK, admittedly I am fairly new here, and have been away from the forum for a month or so, but I always look back to see if I can learn something new, 'cause i surely don't know everything. So, I find a thread on lifter grinding with a lot of pix and figure, great, I can learn something. Even after 60 yrs. Wow! Nope. A bunch of super-technical terms with inadequate explanation, some attitude thrown in, a user referred to as 'Herm' i don't even kno who that is, posters admitting they need more info, like me, some admin comments, and a closed thread.

OK, I am back to square one on trying to learn more about lifters, and maybe better ways to protect my engine, which I thought this site was about, so all-in-all, wasted bandwidth. Guys who know zero about timing a motor get more help here on a regular basis. My head is spinning, sorry I looked back.

If you need to know the basics of that thread it was where an engine builder was trying to explain that not all lifters were perfectly true and square. If you are replacing them with new ones it pays to double check them. Apparently correcting a wobble or squaring the faces will not grind through any hardening.

tbirdtbird,
Yes, the thread went astray, some got "testy" in trying to prove they knew more than "the average bear" about machining, hardening, etc. We ain't perfect either. Bill W.
