engine storage
I just recently purchased a motor for my my RPU project. My plans are to have it rebuilt early next year. In the mean time what are some things I can do to it for a dry storage in my unheated garage for the winter. It's sitting on a portable stand and I've currently got the head off. I was going to wipe oil on the cylinder walls and reinstall the gasket and head and seal off all the openings to keep out the critters anything else I should do?

Re: engine storage
Sounds like you have it covered ! I wipe excess blocks down with any old used oil that I've around and keep them outside, so yours wiped and kept inside should be fine. Of course....'it never rains in 'ca'...lalaland !

I plan to drain and refill the oil before i start it in the truck again and DEFINATELY start it outside - going to kill all the bugs in a 5 block radius lol the pain important thing is to keep things coated in oil, keep critters out (i use dryer sheets stuffed in all engine orphaces - mice hate them), and keep it moving so every few months (4 times a year or so) liberally coat the cyl walls with oil and give it a few revolutions. hard for things to seize up if their moving.
