12 volt aftermarket horn

Ok, so I bought a 1929 Leatherback last year that was already converted to 12 volt. It had the sickest sounding Chevy(?) horn on it that there ever was. So at Hershey this year, the horn guy convinced me to buy an older 12 volt aftermarket horn that he had restored. (sounded great and was cheaper than an original!) It only has one wire coming out of the housing.

I have been told that to use the horn button on the steering wheel, I need to install a relay in the line. Can someone give me any information concerning this and what I need to buy? Also any information concerning the installation would be greatly appreciated. (Electrical is not my strength!!!, and if any of my Club members respond to this last comment I'll be upset!)

That horn is internally grounded. Although you could use a relay, a simpler solution would be to remove the motor cover and find where the horn motor is grounded. Either one of the two brushes or one of the field leads is connected to the frame. Disconnect that wire and splice it to a second lead. Now you can connect it like the two leads on an original horn- one to power at the generator/alternator, the second lead to the horn wire from the light switch. The horn button provides the ground when pushed.
