Default MARC Lexington Meet

We are leaving next weekend for the MARC meet. We planned to travel on I-79 in West Virginia from Morgantown to Charleston, WV. The model A is basically stock and I have told that the hills on this route are not good for Model A's. Has anyone traveled this route and will it be okay for touring?

No but all roads are good for Model A's! Enjoy the sites on the way.

You might try and find out what the speed limit is on I-79. Many of the interstates in my area have gone up to 65-70 MPH. Not a good place for a stock Model A, especially on the steeper hills. Personally, I prefer the back roads and old truck routes that usually parallel the interstate with lower speed limits and less traffic.

Mark,
Wish I could make it but with doing the Blue Ridge tour and a couple of business trips in July I just cant do the time..... too young to retire and have more time... and lots of Model A work to do... and thankful to have it! Would appreciate if you guys could post some pictures from the meet for us. That would be awesome. I'm looking for slant window cabby photos too!

Four of us are driving from Jefferson City MO, leaving Sun. taking back roads through MO, IL, IN. Staying the first night in Vincennes IN.

Question: From Louisville KY can we take Hwy 60 staying off Interstate 64. I ask because it looks like 60 might have a lot of stop and go traffic.

Anyone know how many cars are expected? We are looking forward to the trip. Two have not been to a National Meet. On a " Bucket List " for one of us.

Steven, I live in the Huntington, WV area ( across river in OHIO ) Steven, take I-79 to Clarksburg, WV exit and go Rt. 50 to Parkersburg, WV. (55mph road, does not mean they drive that speed ) Now look and see if you want to continue on Rt. 50 West and take Rt. 7 south to Huntington. This is 55 a mph max. roads, you could take I-77 south to Charleston, I-77 does not have the big mountains like I-79. If you do go the Interstate to Charleston and then I-64 to Lexington, add a flag and slow moving sign. They (cars/semi trucks ) are traveling at 70mph plus and close in on you very fast going 42 to 50MPH. Be careful and let me know if you need anything. ( also can pickup Rt. 60 west, it would be slow but takes you to Lexington, KY. )

"The model A is basically stock..."

Why even consider the interstate? Without at least an overdrive driving at, say, 55 MPH will really rev the engine. I'm think you want to get there in one day -- yes? Take the back roads and enjoy the ride. Much safer too.

I would stay clear of I-79, I live just off of I-79 on Rt. 19 about half way between Fairmont and Clarksburg. 79 is very heavy traffic lots of hills and lots of accidents. speed limit is 70. Pick up Rt.19 south to Clarksburg than Rt.50 west to Parkersburg, than Rt.7 to Huntington.Than cross over to Kentucky. I-79 Has a lot of big truck traffic. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.

As of June 18 we have 380 A Models and about a thousand people signed up. It is too late to register by mail but we welcome walk ups. You must be a MARC member to register and we can take care of that on site as well.
