Re: grundy alert
AAA will write agreed value policy with 5K mi/yr limit...must be garaged, no other restrictions. Half the cost of Hagarty's. Should note that this is in So Cal region…not sure about rest of county.

Re: grundy alert
I have Hagerty also. Just received a email stating that they talked to someone and for the month of August you can drive with no restrictions. Very nice.

Re: grundy alert
I guess, to sum it all up, if you drop Grundy for Haggerty it makes it a 'grundy pull'
Kind of like a wedgie. Also tends to pre-load the nuts near your rear end |

Re: grundy alert
I insured my A's with State Farm for many years because my teenage sons were covered. After they left home I switched to Grundy because they were lots cheaper. I make sure the purpose of my trips meets their requirements and I have no problem with the other requirements like storage locations. You do need to match your insurance to your conditions.

Re: grundy alert
Keith, I beg you pardon. I have a pre-accessed value on the vehicles. My insurance states that value. This is with State Fram whom I have been with for over 30 years.

Quote:
"Usage Hagerty provides coverage for collector vehicles that are used on a limited basis — e.g. club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving. Storage Collector vehicles must be stored in an enclosed and secure structure when not in use. Qualifying storage locations include private residential garages, private pole buildings or barns and rental storage units." This is pretty consistent with most other companies that sell antique policies. The issue is with what's regular and what's pleasure. If you go to Home Depot to get nails that can be considered regular and not ok. If you go for a pleasure drive and stop for nails that's incidental and is ok. Some companies have specific mileage limits that Haggerty and Grundy do not. Read the fine print and adjust your purpose to match the accepted use. |

Re: grundy alert
I am a retired insurance underwriter and the information from Keith is on point.
Most personal auto policies are written on an actual cash value basis ( ACV ) If the car is a total loss you are paid what the car is worth at the time of loss. This form does not show the actual amount of coverage just " ACV". This form is not designed to be used for collector cars A Stated Amount policy shows the most the company will pay. If the car is worth less they will pay its value not the stated amount shown on the policy. An Agreed Value policy will show an amount that will be paid if the cat is a total loss. Companies writing this form usually ask for an appraisal on cars above a certain value. This is usually the best form to have but you have to know the restrictions on use of the auto. Some of the restrictions are not actually stated in the policy. If you are workong with an agent make sure he knows the form he is using. Many agents don't understand the policy they are selling. Most true collector car auto policies are written on a Agreed Value basis. |

Re: grundy alert
"State Farm, 10k a year and no restrictions, just like a regular car...."
YIKES! I realize you live up there in the high rent district, Mark, but that seems awfully strong just for car insurance. how many cars for that price? I've had homeowners and modern cars with State Farm for 26 years. after I got their quote for insuring the '58 Chebby truck, we put the truck in Alice's name and onto her Nationwide vehicle policy at a much more reasonable cost. UPDATE: I get the doofus award for today. Keith is correct below, that 10K is miles, not premium cost. in the immortal words of Gilda Radner's Emily Litella character, "never mind".

Re: grundy alert
I think he is talking about his yearly mileage, not his premiums.I won't go with J.C.Taylor because they wouldn't take me on when I was younger.I could see maybe a 16 year old kid,but I was 28 wanting to insure an A at the time with a perfect driving record, zero losses on any insurances.I realize they have done a big turnaround since then though. That was 28 years ago. There are some changes going on in the Grundy camp right now,In the month I went with them I got one notice of an underwriter change, followed up by a notice that the new underwriter was not going to carry insureds in N.H.I have a friend here in town that was dropped by his insurance for excessive mileage. The thing is though, his miles are legit. He does about 12,000 a year just going to cruise nights. In the summer there are cruise nights going on 7 nights a week.He has gone back to Hagerty.

Has anyone filed a claim for damages ,theft ,etc. , for their Model A with any of these insurance companies . If so ,did they settle your claim to your satisfaction ?

Re: grundy alert
I haven't seen Condon & Skelly mentioned. Anyone using these people as I have my A & 64 Impala Convertible with them. Think I shall take a look at how this policy is written..............
