Can you post photos of the canister? I think those filters are used in a full flow oil system, not the stock flathead set up. Call O'Brien Trucker's the manufacturer and ask them. Or contact some of the folks who have installed them.

this looks like the older style that still took the original canister filter not the spin on new kind

These were meant to be firewall mounted but by cutting off the filter housing from the original ford filter, a mounting surface can be fabricated utilizing the head mount.
Make sure that there is an .060 dia. restrictor hole on the inlet side.
Also make sure that you have or can obtain the necessary gaskets.
Unlike the spin-on type these are pressurized and must be properly sealed, otherwise you will have a mess on your hands.
Something to think about.-- The procedure you have to go thru just to replace the filter when needed.

DO NOT FORGET TO PUT A RESTRICTOR fitting on the inlet side of the filter. I just put one on an 8ba and had to modify and original restrictor to make it work

No, if I remember correctly, the center outlet is the return line to the oil pan. For a filter element, you might start out trying one from an original Ford filter. They should come with the gaskets.

The original one takes a NAPA #1006 filter. It comes two different size flat o-rings for two covers. The cap screw uses a copper washer. The o-ring goes in the cover, yours looks like it goes in the filter canister. You might have to make something to seal it...... That is a nice looking piece...... Mark

Check the (2) elbows and (1) mounting nut to see if there is an .060 dia. restrictor hole.
If found then that component is the intake side.
