Went to a Swap Meet on the weekend, and this 1938 Ford Standard Coupe Ute was for sale for $8000. There are not many good Utes left in Australia. Until recently, they were unloved and many were used as "parts cars" for other body styles. It is only recently that Utes have become sought after. This old girl has had a very hard life and needs a lot of help to bring it back to good condition.

We were there too, pity we didn't catch up! It was a sad old Ute, seemed to have a lot of '40 stuff fitted to it . Did it sell? We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of early V8 parts on offer , doesn't happen down here anymore.....we brought back a truckload of stuff including a '40 Std. Ute. Back next year so we'll have to meet up,cheers.....

While you hardly ever see a 1938 Ford Deluxe Roadster any more, the chances of seeing a 1938 Ford Standard Roadster are even more remote.
Check out the picture from the original Ford Australia Sales Brochure showing the 1938 Ford Standard Roadster which proves that Ford Australia did indeed make such a car. It is just a pity that earlier owners of this car didn't take better care of it by storing it undercover. As you can see from the photos, this car requires a full extensive restoration. Had better care been taken of it earlier on, that would have saved a lot of hard work and expense, making it that much more valuable today.
Some one should go flat out and restore this 1938 Ford Standard Roadster to original/factory new. What a great specimen.

Hi Mile, This is as good as I can do. This is the Page from the Original Sales Brochure. As you can appreciate, these cars are extremely rare and I would not know where to start looking for one. I believe that one has been make into a Street Rod, but that is about the only one that I have heard of. I have never seen one in real life. They are extremely rare. Regards Mercman <><

It is a 1940 & was added as Mike said that a 40 Roadster would be cool. These are so rare, this is the only picture that I could find to prove that Australia did in fact build a Roadster in 1940.

If the previous custonions had of taken good care of this rare car, instead of storing it out in the open, it would have been snached up quickly by enthusiasts. Unfortunately, it seems that the car is now very rusty, and may even require a replacement frame. It is a car worth saving, but the expense would be huge.

The Swap Meet that the 1938 Ford Standard Ute pictured above was the Annual Toowoomba Swap in Queensland. By the way, the only years that Ford Australia offered a Deluxe Ford Ute were 1939 and 1940.

That is a great lookin' car! I always thought Ford styling ended it's summit in 1936, but I'd have one of these in a heartbeat!

That 1938 Ford Standard Roadster ex Argentina is coming along nicely. From this Post, it is obvious that the 1938 Ford Standard Roadsters were not unique to Australia as originally thought?
