1934 sedan. Pulling out the gas tank

I am going to restore the original gas tank in my '34 Fordor Sedan and I´ll put a modern electrical fuel gauge with a new one fuel level sensor.

Could anyone give to me instructions on how remove the gas tank to clean it without lift the body

Does anyone have experience pulling out a 34 sedan tank and installing a non original fuel gauge?

Not difficult Take the shroud off the back. Remove bumper and the spreader bar and the rest is obvious. No body lift required Don't forget to disconnect the fuel and airlines before trying to remove the tank-Karl

On my coupe I found it easier to remove the two triangular plates on each side, to give better access to the fuel tank bolts. This may be different on a sedan, though, not sure. If the bolts are not rusted up like mine were, removal of the plates might not be necessary.

This is topical to me right now as I need to remove my tank again as it seems to have sprung a leak.

It is a very tight fit but will come out. Yes, remove the bumper, spare tire mount, spreader bar and rear pan. It helps to squirt penetrating oil on the back side of the pan where the nuts are that hold the pan on, do this for a couple of days before removing the screws. I was able to get the bolts out with a combination of wrenches without taking the triangles off but might have been easier if I had. If you have a good original gauge, airline kits are available and IMHO would be better than changing the sending unit. You will find that the original fuel pick up point where the line hooks up is part of the original gauge sending unit.

The spreader bar is the heavy bar bolted across the rear of the frame. It has the bumper brackets on it, and a support for the spare wheel carrier.

I don't know if a sedan is the same as a coupe, but here are some pictures from when I took the tank out of my coupe.

All of the passenger car gas tanks, covers, and filler pieces on the sides between the body and chassis frame are the same. The only thing that might differ is the spreader bars are different for cars with side-mounted spare tires and luggage racks, but their removal and re-installation would be no different.

On my 33-34 Sedan, I had the tank out and in a couple times. All I might add is that it was 'tricky', in that the tank had to be held just a certain way, at a certain angle. Held just right, it went in and out easy. But, off angle, you would swear it wont go.
And, I took off the 'triangles'. Never tried it with triangles in place.

Removing Fuel Tank on 1934 Ford. Make sure you disconnect the Fuel Lines first. This panel is located under the rear seat of my Australian 1934 Ford Phaeton. The USA models maybe different?

If you are pulling out the original tank to clean it and install a non original fuel sender why not buy a new tank that would be set up for the later sender? I seriously doubt that a modern sender will fit in your original tank without some modifications.

Pretty easy to make a simple adapter plate to fit a modern sender into an old tank.

On some tanks the diameter of the original hole will not allow some modern senders to drop into the tank.
