Question Valve Seat Grinder

Me being an old tool nut I just bought a Hall valve seat grinder with pilots & stones included. I was able to download a parts list with a brief summary on how to xcare for it. Does anyone have a real users manual that can be copied? It also included what appears to be a flexible cable attachment kind of like a dremel tool which seems to allow grinding seats from an angle. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony G.

I use a Neway valve seat cutting tool. It machines both angles on the seats.

The Hall toledo is one of the best valve seat grinders (my opinion), it works different than all the others, it has an eccentric bushing and the stone only touches a small area, the stone turning fast, the eccentric turning slow,it goes around and around, there is a knob on top to control the depth of cut.

I have a lot of documation on B&D, and Sioux, but I don't think I have any on the hall and I wouldn,t be able to look till the weekend.

I did find it online-- http://www.hall-toledo.com/index_files/Page400.htm

Do you have the special pilots for "A" and V8, the pilots that fit in place of the valve guide?

I have B&D, Sioux, neway, and the Hall ---it makes the nicest seats, but is slower that Sioux, and B&D,

Hi Kurt,
Thanks for the info. Sorry to say I dont have the Ford pilots. I have the B&D pilots for the A & B Fords in my regular valve setup.Too bad I'd like to use this Hall in my next motor project.

They do show up on E-bay from time to time, I think only the hall pilots have the straight groove.

The flexible cable device is likely one that will grind seats in an engine that the head does not come off, like an Offy or some aircraft engines? The Hall gives a great, clean seat. I have a worn-out one but no instructions on it. It is not complicated, the knob on top allows you to deed the stone down slowly.

I have a Hall-Toledo eccentric, great machine, it uses taper arbors with a collect
affair at the bottom and a nut at the top. I also have a Kwik-way with a long extension
on it, both electric and air, ( can't lift the electric anymore ) and if I remember correctly
we used it to do seats on the Offy's

The swivel handle on top has what looks like number increments on a micrometer, does the handle screw in and out or is it just for a hand hold ?

Tony,
Post a photo(s) of you grinder if you can. I'm not sure what a " swivel handle " is.

The micrometer type swivel handle device on mine is a counterbalance spring to compensate for it's weight when it is used on a V type engine in the chassis --look in the link in my other post, the instructions are in there on the company website ---I think they still sell parts.

I just started a Yahoo Group for the Hall-Toledo Model EJ Eccentric Valve Seat Grinder. I have 7 PDF type manuals for this machine that I took the time to scrub and clean to make them like new more important readable. These manuals go back as far as the 1940's and a few from the mid to late 1950's and some from the 1980's. I also found some wire tag type cards that were more than likely fastened to it when it was new, those have been scanned to a PDF format as well. These documents are provided free of charge.

Regards,
Jack
