Been in hospital 4 Spinal Surgery
Hi Guys, 1st let me thank God I came thru it all OK & am in a 1 yr recovery @ home now before playing w the toys again. Didn’t know but I’d had an injury Probly from football as a kid & must of shrugged it off. The process of the body trying to protect started growing soft tissue in Cervix vertebrae 1 & 2 pushing on Spinal-chord. Was losing hand, foot, leg & arm function. Long & short they cut some bone out to relieve pressure @ C1 & C2 & fused to lower vertebrae. Symptoms subsiding slowly but steadily & looking forward to being back in the game in 6 months to a year.
Best to u all

Good to hear it all went ok! Take care of yourself.
I just spent two days in the hospital with a bowel infection. Could have been more serious if I had waited too long. |

My doctor told me not to lift anything heavier than a can of beer or a woman's skirt. So far, so good.

When you feel it's time, get yourself moving. Start with easy exercise I went through Waay worse. I managed to get back to trucking. Yeah!
Cancer erased the progress I made. Today I'm a poor excuse for man. I've given up the count of bursts and fractures of my spine. I'm still trying, even though the Drugs I've been given have wrecked my chassis. Osteoporosis dire and severe I'm told. The one who really suffers is the Mrs.

Well for all the barners who have serious issues, the best thing you can do is FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS your physician/surgeon/PT people give you. That is your best chance for your outcome. We are all getting older and there is always something...Take care and speedy recovery to all.

Re: Been in hospital 4 Spinal Surgery
Tony, we usually never know the problems others are going through. Sorry to hear about this, but happy to know you came through the operation well. Take your time, let the healing process take its time, then you can get back to safely working on your nice '35 again.

Glad to hear you are doing better, and hope all goes well. I have had 2 back surgeries, a hip replacement, and a partial knee replacement. all took a while to heal, just listen to the Doc., like the others said, and take it slow.

Re: Been in hospital 4 Spinal Surgery
Get well soon.
The surgeons in the States are the best in the world so you should get a good result if you follow what they say.Its good to hear that the medical system is still functioning despite the recent situation . Over here despite very few COVID cases all routine surgery and cancer screening went on hold in the unrealized expectation of our health system being overwhelmed - A decision we may well end up paying for later

Anthony,
Glad we weren’t born fifty years sooner. We probably would not have been able to get the treatments they can do today. Mine was open heart, seven years ago. Be careful. We are praying for ya. |

Re: Been in hospital 4 Spinal Surgery
Clif, think again about the heart surgery.
I had the bungie cord put around a heart valve and now I don’t run out of breath quickly like I did all my life. But...they also did a single bypass because I had one real small artery near my heart. Bypass connections last an average of seven years. When they break you’re dead. I got mine seven years ago. I’ve known them to last twenty. I would hesitate getting a bypass. Especially if the problem was there since birth. I’m glad I got my valve fixed but I wish I had not got the bypass. |

Glad you came through the surgery well. Nobody else has mentioned it, but I will. You can thank the Lord, The Great Physician, for your successful surgery and He will see you through your recovery. God Bless.

I agree with 40 on this one.
Really good to hear that Anthony is doing well after such a major operation. My Dr. told me if I get the urge to exercise I should just go lay down until the urge goes away. |

Hope, by no means did you 'butt in on someone else's space'. I think it's good that many of us barners are learning we are not alone with the medical problems we face. I am encouraged by all the success stories here. Thanks all who have contribited your stories and encouraged Anthony (and the rest of us) here!

Good to here your on the mend, take it easy like everyone says. I took care of my mom last year (lived there for 1.5 months) after 9 fused vertebrae (2 a few years prior to that) and after a year she's still uses her brace sometimes around the house. She's regained most of the feeling back in her leg, foot and lower back (they said it will still continue to get better) and she has very little pain.

All the best. After 30 years as a GP in New Zealand I can tell you we have some pretty fine Doctors here as well. If there is anything I can help you with just let me know. Getting old is not great but the alternative lacks appeal as well LOL -Karl

Re: Been in hospital 4 Spinal Surgery
I had spinal surgery on 8/27/20, within days of getting the ok to go back to work, the warrantee on my gall bladder expired. That came out on 9/25/20. The doc had to go in on 9/28 and remove stones that lodged where they shouldn’t be and really pissed off my liver.
Hopefully this is done for awhile. Winters coming and I’m gonna have snow to move. I always thought getting old would take longer!!....Heal well guys!.....Mark
