Default Please ID this Sedan Delivery body

This Sedan Delivery body was hauled in to the home of a close family member who asked me to help id it. Body seems complete, I see no identifiers, and the Firewall does not look Ford to me. It has some ressemblance with my 33 Ford Tudor. The spare tire location is unusual. Roof is all metal and can't see any welding marks. It appears a mid 30s SD. Impossible to get photos of the interior as it is loaded with all types of junk, including the other half of the rear door, that is packed inside. The dash is hardly visible and quite different than 33-34s that I know well. If any other picture is critical to identify it I will try to get them. Is this a Ford? What year? The car is in South Dakota. Thanks for your comments.

I THINK it's a Ford, but it is NOT a SEDAN DELIVERY. It is a "Panel". Easily distinguished by TWO rear doors......SEDAN DELIVERY only has ONE rear door. I'd make a WAG that it is 1940-ish. These panels are on a heavy chassis. Sedan deliveries are on a passenger car chassis. NOT anywhere near as hard to find as sedan deliveries. DD

It looks like the '39 I was given back in the 70s but didn't have a place to store it. And yes - truck chassis, not car.

Hi; Looks like a tonner panel '40-47 by the doors. We have an expert on the barn SISSON up in Washington State. Best of all; there is a pair of NOS rear fenders for sale here in Portland OR area. PM me for the fenders $500 pr. Newc

See if it has a LOF or Ford logo/bug on the window glass. If so, at least the glass is Ford if it's original.

I would say it is a 1947 as the fuel filler is not sticking out of the body ahead of the rear fender like the pre war.

In the picture it appeared not to have the filler neck but looking at some other '47's they also had the exposed filler. Think it went away in '48. Body is probably '42 - '47.

42 to 47 panel truck. You could make it into a 40-41 if you remove the fender bracket thats welded to the cowl.

depending on where in south dakota, the stuff out west is usually in very good shape rust wise. about half way across the state (west) it gets dry, and our old junk lives a good life

Here's a photo of a 1942 Panel. The lines look the same.

Looks like a 41 up. 40 and earlier would have a stepped firewall. Also 41 up would have a voltage reg and not a cut out. I so not know the difference of a 41 and 42 but they both look the same to me from the side.

Very yhelpful suggestion. Found 2 glasses with a Ford bug. The picture shows the driver's window glass and there is also a bug on the broken windshield but it is backwards as was commonly the case when mounting glasses during production.

Can you guess the year looking at the code on the bug? On the left is a C and on the right of "Ford" is a D5. My 33 has the month and year in those sites but in this case is some type of code that I don't know.

So now we know is a Ford and pretty much all of you believe is a truck panel from 1942-47. Will be searching for its frame/chassis that appears may be around also.

Yep, we are in western South Dakota and old iron seems very well preserved around here.

Maybe March of 1945 for the glass bug.

Looks 1942-47 to me. Note that the rear fenders on the 42-47 panel are different than the 1938-41 panel, no dimple for the spare tire on the RH and the bottom of the fender is 1-2" lower than earlier panels or pickups. 1/2 ton bodies are shorter than the 3/4 or 1 ton, yours looks to be 1/2 ton but i would carefully measure first.

It looks just like a 47 panel that was for sale here a few years ago. Look on the back of the glove box door and see if there is a data plate. This will ID the exact year, and if you pull it off you can tell the original color.

That is GB's tonner. I recognize the scabbed on wheel for rolling it.

Pretty close to me then, I'm in Western SD too, 10 miles from Wyoming.

Is the firewall indented to allow for a six?

Here is what my 40 ford panel looks like in the rear and the fender, notice the fender indentation for the spare tire holder.

Does it not have a VIN? That would tell you for sure.
