Re: 1932 Ford Column Drop Ignition Switch
I can't think of anything that could fit the drop. I would start over. A length of 1 1/2" pipe for the bottom and some bent sheet metal for the drop. You just need to find a really small switch and make a tube for it to go in. The problem is the swiches come in from the back and need a flat surface to mount on. With the angle of the stock hole, you would need to cut most of the left side of the drop away if you could even find a small enough switch.

Re: 1932 Ford Column Drop Ignition Switch
The lock does not move the switch. There are a lot of parts in the drop. There is a plunger that goes up and down. It locks the steering shaft. It also turns to move the ign. switch on the back. A toggle moves the plunger side to side to turn the switch. The lock only moves the plunger up and down. There is a cap that moves with the plunger. Almost all the parts are unique to the 32 drop. Very few parts are available. That is why I suggested starting over. About the only way to get the parts is to buy another drop.

Re: 1932 Ford Column Drop Ignition Switch
Roadster62,
In 1932, Ford did not have a push button starter button like later 30s & 40s Ford. However, on the back side of the column drop there was an Ignition On/Off switch that was activated by a lever on the front side of the drop. I suggest that do a Search of Posts on Ford Barn. Use a search title, such as, '1932 Column Drop'. There is a lot of information on Ford Barn about the 1932 column drop. Original 32 key cylinders are available, but it only does two things. Move a plunger to unlock the steering column shaft and unlock the lever that activates the ignition switch. All you have is the column drop housing. You may be better off in the long run, dollar wise, to find a complete column drop with all the bits and pieces. Good Luck with your project.

Re: 1932 Ford Column Drop Ignition Switch
As long as you don't care about being a working switch dummy it up.
Get a on/off plate & a switch lever & a dummy keyed switch. Put it together with some J-B weld & mount your working keyed switch & starter push button under the dash. Those parts are fairly easy to come by. |
