Positive Ground Disconnect
This subject may have come up before, but I could not find a thread addressing this specific issue. So, if it is a rehash, please pardon me.
I have a disconnect switch hooked between the starter and the negative post of the battery. My setup is a 6 volt, positive ground electrical system. I want to change the disconnect so that it is located between the positive battery post and the ground on the chassis. My question is, will the disconnect switches sold by the Model A vendors work for this application? I ask because the instructions that come with those switches specifically state to install them between the starter and the battery (see the link below for the switch sold by Snyder's). Is there some reason of which I'm not aware why that switch is not appropriate?? Many thanks!! Mike http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/disconnect-switch |

Re: Positive Ground Disconnect
A switch is a switch. Hopefully you're not using the "cheapo" with the green knob on the top, and the more expensive one?
This HAS been covered before. Do a search.. My cable comes off the pos cable to the switch, the other cable comes off the switch to ground. My switch is mounted under driver's seat,, easily accessable but out of sight (tudor sedan). paul in CT |

Mine is on the ground wire on a positive ground setup. It is located under the floor with a hole for access. This link is a previous thread that I posted pictures of mine. I believe mine came from Mac's.

Re: Positive Ground Disconnect
I bought a switch and bracket from Bratton's, also an extra cable that was intended to go from the switch to the starter lug.
Instead I went to the local auto store and bought a 32" #2 positive cable, ran that from the battery + lug to the switch, and then ran the Bratton extra cable from the switch to a starter mount bolt....it cranks faster with this setup.. The battery - goes direct to the starter with the stock cable.

Re: Positive Ground Disconnect
the switch you show from Snyders is rugged and good quality, similar, if not that supplied by Cole Hersee. Cole Hersee on their web site has a number of configurations, some with longer shafts (# M284) which are for thicker substrates such as floor boards, etc.

Re: Positive Ground Disconnect
As has been discussed before, be SURE you get a switch with 2 poles so you can kill the generator also in an emergency.
