Re: Difference, 1987 '40 Ford Book & new one ?
I would compare it to a owners manual for a car (the old 40 book) to owning the service bulletins (new 40 book)
I know, bad comparison. The original 40 book was good for a 40 owner, but the NEW 40 book blows it out of the water. Mike Kubarth did a excellent job at showing individual correct parts primarily in restored form but also many photos of original and NOS parts at nearly every aspect of the vechicle including the hardware and their respective part #’s After reading through it, I have some Fix’in to do on my 40 coupe Last edited by 35fordtn; 02-09-2021 at 09:23 PM. |

The old one was dictated to a recorder by a well known collector as he described things on his own cars, the new one was researched extensively and looked for the true answers and needed proof from Ford sources to verify.

The new book weighs 2#, 2oz. The old book weighs 10oz. So, a difference of 1# 8oz. The new book is .520" thick. The old book is .165" thick. So, a difference of .355". The new book is $50. The old book (as I recall) is $20. A difference of $30. The new book is the result of cold hard research. The old book - not so much. So, the difference of reality vs. conjecture.

As noted, no comparison. Like comparing apples to oranges.

Re: Difference, 1987 '40 Ford Book & new one ?
but for years there were no such thing as a "BOOK" on a 40 or any other and Benny Bottle and Wayne Moore tried to help us back then to do a better restoration, yes not as detailed as the new book but read the title of the old one. A compendium of CURRENT restoration practices. yes apple and oranges but look back on what there was before the apple!

No intent to denigrate the first book.

Thank you all. That's exactly what I wanted to know. It sounds like if I were a serious restorer it would be great investment.

IF you are a V8 Fordie and just want to "know" 40 Fords...early/late, right/wrong.....Its worth the investment!!! Even IF you don't have a 40 for that matter.

I got the new book last week and it is great. Similar format to David's 32 books with the same outstanding and comprehensive attention to detail.
