Default turn signals in a 36

I'm thinking of putting front turn signals in the reflector plates where the
parking lights originally go. Any of you tried this with your 36 and how
do like this arrangement? Terry NY

I installed a turn signal kit from C&G a few weeks ago. I had converted the sealed beams that were in the car when I got it to halogen headlamps. The halogens came with new reflectors which had the park light bulbs already set up with an extra wire for turn signals. Works great.

I have stock headlights in my 36 pickup. I changed the parking light to turn signals and they work great. I made the stock bulbs orange with a marker, I couldn't find orange 6 volt bulbs.

Bill, orange bulbs came with my halogen kit. If you want the vendors name, let me know.

I don't know why anyone would put turn signals IN a headlight! I can't see turn signals on on a modern car that has the headlights on day or night until they're very close. When they're too close, the signals just get overpowered by the headlights. I think signals should be separated from the headlights by at least 6" or so. That's my two cents.

Anybody ever use the turn signal kit that MACS sells that go behind the horn grilles ? I keep looking at them in the catalog, but I don't know how "cheesy" they'd look. They're pretty pricey, too.

I put a set of turn signals from Bob Drake in my 36.
Nice kit, works well.

PeteVS,

You are right, they not as effective in the headlight but they are still visible. Most of my driving is done during the day anyway. For me it was the ability to keep the stock look with only adding a tail light to get signals.

I used the Appleton fog lights with dual element bulbs to get both turn signals and fog lights.

I did my roadster lights about 30 years ago with this same thought in my head and did it anyway. I have found the amber bulb does stand out and overpower the headlight when it is blinking - with 12 volts I might add. I used a universal 2 wire light socket from NAPA with 1157NA bulbs and fit them into where the original parking light socket was. It is a lot easier to see than arm signals in the dark too.
