Default Oil Pump Drive Gear

I can not get the oil pump drive gear installed. I have a new engine and installed the oil pump and oil pan and did not get the gear installed first.
Do I have to remove the pan and pump to install the drive gear?

The drive gear, the gear housing and pin assembly are held by the large spring located in the center of the valve chamber and can be installed through the chamber. The distributor drive shaft connects to the top of the unit. The oil pump connects to the bottom of the unit. Be sure all the shafts are meshed properly. See attached photos :

If you have already installed the oil pump, there is probably a slight mis-alignment between the oil pump and the drive gear. Try rotating the camshaft slightly and then install the gear. You may have to try several times to get it to drop it. If that doesn't work for you, I would un-install the oil pump, insert the drive gear in the valve chamber first, then re-install the oil pump.

Just drop the drive gear in and turn the motor till it drops into the pump. There is no reason to take the pump out. You may have to press down on the drive to get it to align with the pump. You can also put the drive in and lift it up and down while turning it one tooth at a time till it drops in. I would go with the first one.
