Default 8BA Crank Grind Size Limits?

I'm going to go look at a couple crankshafts for my next engine. I'm sure I've read the answers here, but can't find the real scoop right now. Both of em I think have been ground, and will need that again. Mac VP shows both rod and main bearings up to .040 over. C and G shows con rod bearings up to .040, mains up to .030. I can call these guys, but like to know as much as I can. How much can you grind? Thanks everybody!

I have one (3 3/4 stroke) that my builder says should go .010/.010 (maybe .020/.020 at the worst). You can have it for free. What's shipping from Minnesota to Arkansas (in May when I get back)?

The 4" crank in my 8BA is turned .040" on the rods. I got the bearings from Red's Headers several years ago. I have about 5000 miles on the engine and the oil pressure is the same as when first fired up.

Thanks everybody. These are actually Mercury cranks. I know I don't NEED a Merc crankshaft, I just WANT one. I now have a running 239 and a running 255. Not sure I can tell the difference, but I like to think I can.

Denny you are a generous man..........(my wife says I am, too, give away way too much stuff.)

You can actually grind it down to 1.998 and use early floater bearings down to -.040, Get creative You might have to balance the crank after all tis

Confirm bearing size with the machine shop before you order bearings. Bearings are under size not oversize. Any machine can order them no problems.
