LED Taillites
Hi,
I purchased a set of LED taillites at Hershey. They are the kind with the bulb endings that just go into the bayonet fittings in the taillite, 6V Pos Grd. Problem is, both top and bottom light when I turn on the parking lights, even though my bulbs work properly. THer IS a red wire from top to bottom. Has anyone just cut that wire to make it work right? It is the 19 LED item FTL2831LED6-R by United Pacific. |

Re: LED Taillites
Yes, I cut that wire and the top and bottom sections work independently. I believe a past issue of "Model A Times" covered the various installtions of these LED lamps.

Re: LED Taillites
Thanks, Doug.
I will read that issue of MAT and then cut the wire. I think I will need a LOAD on the wires, too, since the flasher did not seem to work while I was playing with it, but it sure was BRIGHT. |

Re: LED Taillites
I cut the wire on mine too. Just make sure you cut the wire short on both ends because i just had cut mine in the middle, and the wire shorted out on the housing, burning out most of the LED's. But the one on the passenger side never had a problem when i cut it short, and I replaced the driver side cutting that wire short, and it never had a problem either.

Re: LED Taillites
I suggest coating the ends of those cut wires with Liquid Tape. It can be found in most hardware stores and comes in a can with a brush in the lid. It is better than tape.

Re: LED Taillites
I run stock gen. 6 volt with a voltage regulator and have no problems at all.

Re: LED Taillites
I run stock 6V Generator. LED-Tail-Lights and 5 / 21 in the Headlights
( 5 W all day, 21 in the evening....). 50 W in the Headlights makes my Amp-meter flipp backwards (seems not original to me). Looking for additional LEDs for the coal-lights. Christoph Frankfurt Germany |

Re: LED Taillites
6Volt pos ground, generator, LED rears, had to use 10 watt cowls to get the 535 flasher to work properly. None of the three electronic flashers I tried would work.

Re: LED Taillites
I bought the LED tail light bulbs from the Australian guy at Hershey a few years ago. They work great. I got the units from Bratton's for my roadster. They have a lot of little LEDs in a circuit board. I would rather have just one light, but I am going to live with what I have for now. I bought Halogens from the Australian guy for my sedan's headlights. They work great, too, but really draw the current. I am on stock generator for both cars right now.

Re: LED Taillites
Just bought my L.E.D. tail lights/stop lights/turn signals. I am running a 6 volt alternator and am very happy with it. I personally would never go back to a generator, mostly because of the third brush adjustments and the cutout problems.
can't wait to get them installed. |

Re: LED Taillites
I run LED's made by Steve Smith and sold by some of the parts vendors. Because LED's are directional I like the thirty or so LED's on the board to fill out the lens. The cheaper single LED that goes right into the socket is bright but only in one spot as it does not diffuse over the entire lens. A generator is no problem as LED's don't take much which is the problem for tripping a mechanical flasher. Since I am more concerned with the rear I just use the 10 watt bright bulb in the front which trips the flasher. Someone, probably Tom Wesenberg, found an electronic flasher, used I think for a motorcycle.

Re: LED Taillites
I installed the complete replacement light fixture with LED's and still use the 6 volt generator. When I stepped on the brake pedal, the old lights would draw at least 4 amps as indicated by the ammeter. The new LED's draw less than 1 amp. VERY BRIGHT!!!
