1941 Ford 1.5 Ton US Mail Box/Panel Truck

Hi Everyone,
My nephew just acquired a 1941 Ford 1.5 truck, which it took forever to figure it out. It has been cut down to a truck. The odd doors and windshield made it tough. It has the full length running boards with the factory widener at the rear for the rear fenders with duals (fenders are gone) which my nephew spotted. My brother seen the rear bumper another tip. When they were hauling it home my brother spotted the big piece to the puzzle. US MAIL stamped into the side wall of one tire. I finally found 2 photos of what it originally was. Any info on this truck is appreciated. What we have read the post service was really struggling for vehicles at this time and what was built they used what they could get hold of to make them. That would be a fun, but quite ambitious project. That front sheet metal is among my favorite of the Ford trucks. Hoping your nephew will dig in, join here and get some progress pics of whatever direction he goes.

Some trucks had 95 hp engines, there may be a hood badge. My 40 Firetruck has one. Newc

New member here. I have a 1 Ton 41' fire truck which brought me here. The front of your truck looks like mine, minus the turn signals.

Nice fire truck! It's amazing how well fire trucks were maintained so that today we can see what these trucks looked like back in the day unlike most which get all beat up.

But Mark, if you look close, there is a caption already calling the fordoor truck 'Gary's truck'...... I wish

Thanks petehoovie for the photos. My nephew had found the photo of that beautiful panel truck, love both of the other 2 nice looking trucks. Ken T that is one good looking fire truck. The signal lights on my nephews truck were put on when built as the mail truck per the original photo of those mail trucks.
Mark (flatford8) thanks for the comment on my brothers 72 4 door. My brother and nephew built the 72 some years ago and has since been a good looking work horse.
I really think it must have been very very few of these 41 mail box/panel trucks built.

And Ken T, a big welcome to the fordbarn. Sure is a beauty there. It is a 1 1/2 ton or 2 ton. Ford made plenty of one ton trucks but they were all single rear wheel trucks and they had a 122" wheelbase.

OOPs GB I was writing when you posted, I enjoyed your comment Garys truck as in Jailbar Ranch!. Yes my brothers name is Gary. His 72 F250 highboy started life as a telephone company service truck with a service bed, then a regular bed installed and run for years until rust got bad on the body. That's when Gary my brother and his son Dusty did a total rebuild to what it is today. Steve

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the correction. I was told it is a 1 ton. This is new to me and I'm learning as I go.

And two weeks ago I never heard of Burrego Springs, but a friend of well over 40 years just sold his house here on Orcas Island and is headed to live in Burrego Springs next month. I will have him be on the lookout for this truck.
