Default Greasing the u-joint

I can not find a grease fitting on the u-joint housing so I assume you have to take the housing apart so you can put grease around the u-joint . Anyone have any suggestions ,other than taking the housing apart . As usual all responses are appreciated .

There should be one there. Looking to the front of the car, look at the 'clam shell" fitting should be about 4 o'clock, if not there look up at about 10 o'clock (if there the shell halves are assembled wrong). Hope this helps. Most people pump in grease until it starts to come out the speedo "turtle".

If you can't find it, someone may have used 2 top halves, as the top half does not have a fitting. Both halves are identical with the exception being the fitting on the bottom half.

The grease fitting is located on the rear bearing retainer bolted to the back of the transmission, not on the u-joint housing.

Hmmmm, I must be thinking of my '40 then. Just had it all apart. Are the Model A clamshells interchangabe with the v8 years?

Thanks 31 flamingo and everyone else . After I got Flamingo`s response I went back and looked again . Sure enough ,there it was at 4;00 oclock next to the transmision . I was looking next to the speedometer connection. I just finished greasing it . This forum is invaluable. I was about a minute away from tearing into the coupling when I thought I would check with you folks before I did that , Am I ever glad I checked with you folks .Thanks again .

Like 1931 Flamingo said, it might be installed 180 degrees off. My town sedan is that way. It was a major pita to grease so I installed a new grease fitting in the bottom of the clam shell. Not difficult, just be careful not to get any chips in the housing.
