Ford comment in Buster Keaton movie

I don't remember which movie it was right now but in one of the Buster Keaton movies there is a guy with his arm in a cast. Another guy asks him what happened and he responds "I BOUGHT A FORD!" and looks pissed.

What was that about? Were Fords known for breaking arms more than other cars in the early 20s?


Sorry I don't remember the name of the movie, I bought the Buster Keaton box set a while back and just kept watching the movies.


I might have asked this years ago and forgot, I apologize if this is the case.

Next, the family is seated around a table of wedding presents, including the essential How to Box by Jim Corbett. The male relations are armed with bats and bricks. The bride waits outside atop a trash can. J. Keaton has a broken arm, which he says was caused by Ford ownership. As Keaton dresses his suspender buttons pop off and he's left fighting to keep his oversized pants up. He joins the wedding party and he makes a speech about what he'll lose by giving up the single life. First gone are his trousers. The bride comes in, the minister breaks up a fight between Keaton and Roberts, and the ceremony begins. Keaton's pants drop, the minister's pants drop (Keaton stole his belt), then everybody sits down so that nobody's pants will drop. A guest gives Keaton a padlock, so he secures his trousers to his vest. Upon seeing the cheap ring that Keaton provided, Roberts calls off the festivities and drags his daughter home. Keaton tries to go after her, but his mother escorts him by the ear to his room.

Ask any old timey, country docter about a "Ford Fracture". It was a distinctive broken arm that was immediately identified as being caused by using an "Armstrong" starter. Since there were more Fords around, it became a ford fracture.

In the movie "Public Enemy No. 1" (released in 1931) James Cagney and his buddy have just left their new La Salle all weather phaeton (GM for convertible sedan) to the valet at a swanky night club. The valet jumps into the La Salle to park it and grinds the gears real bad. Cagney yells: "Hey, that ain't a Ford!"

not that anybody cares....Erik Weisz (harry houdini) was visting the Keatons, when the youngest fell down the stairs. The kid jumped up and acted like nothing happened. Houdini said 'the kid is tough, that was a real buster'...the nick name stuck.
