Default question and maybe a picture

Hello
I need waterpumps for the conversion of the french engine and I think I found the right pumps but I am not sure so please would anyone check my selection? I found this: 8BA-8501SPR in the van Pelt catalogue, contacted the dealership but did not get a reply. Then I tried to contact Mac VP over the pm. I hope they are healthy and busy and have not had the time to let me know if these pumps are in stock and correct for my project. That french engine should be fitted into my 34 Tudor. If I were not in a hurry, I would patiently wait for their answer but it takes a couple weeks for those parts to arrive here in Germany. Maybe I could manage to insert a pic or two of the car.
Thanks in advance!
Harty

Harty. Hello.

If you are using the 59A type belt placement and a crab or helmet distributor, you need replacement 59A type pumps. You need replacement type because the original type need an oil feed from the block, and that feed is not there on the French block. The replacement type have sealed ball bearings.

Like this:
https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_m...and-95-hp.html

And this:
https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_m...and-95-hp.html

You will need the appropriate crank pulley and a generator that matches too.

I don't think you can use the forward location of the belts in a 33/34 due to clearance issues, so the above is probably your only option.

Edit: The pumps you list from Mac Van pelt are not the type you will need. The belt is too far forward and the shape at the bottom is wrong.

These are the Van Pelt equivalent of the ones above
https://www.vanpeltsalesstore.com/78...ars_p_642.html

These will suit the 33/34 better, but lots of other little things will need doing to make them work. Holes will need to be plugged, for instance.

Mart.

On a similar note, what if you put an 8ba into an early car, where do the engine stay rods go,

You can add brackets to the block for steady rods.

I had a French block and it seemed like the front of the engine was like an 8BA and the back (bellhousing) was like a 59 series. I think the pumps would be 8ba style pumps and for there are early 8ba maybe truck that have the wide belt and level mounting surface. As mentioned, you would want ones with sealed bearings. The 8BA pumps have an additional water hole on the top unlike the 37-48 pumps.

I believe you need truck 8ba water pumps with the straight ear mounts....if a 8ba motor. Cool car. if it's a french engine, wouldn't it make it basically a 59a motor?

Hello again

First of all, thanks very much for the advice and help - especially Mart! I love your films and would like to come to a GB Ford meet one day with the car as it is RH steering. Now that I have managed to insert pics, I can show some more. Hopefully this will clear all doubts of what I have and what I need. All you knowledgeable people, will you please check the pics and verify that the pumps that Mart suggests are indeed the right items. Vanpelts seem to be out of stock so I would order at Macs....
Thank you very much - again!
Harty

Like Mike (deuce_roadster) alluded-to above, the French blocks are "59-ish" at the rear and bottom, and "8BA-ish" at front and on top. They also have that big, ugly growth at rear above the bell. DD

The French blocks have the shape in the casting for the engine steady rods but they will need to be drilled out. Not too bad a job, I drilled the ones in Old Rusty.

Good information Mart! I was thinking more along the lines of the 8ba configuration on the bellhousing, easy to forget that the French blocks are kinda a combo!!

On the 8ba blocks it is fairly easy to fabricate a bracket for each side of the bellhousing area that the steady rods can attach to. Here are some photos from the internet:
