Default '39 Ford DeLuxe steering wheel rim paint

I am looking for the correct type and color paint for the rim of a '39 Ford DeLuxe steering wheel. The only information I have is the name of the color (Cameo Gray) Ford used. My wheel is in very good condition, but the outer rim needs to have the incorrect color removed. I then, also need to know how to remove this paint without damaging the hard rubber rim.

I would just sand it and repaint it with the correct color

I have the same question. The paint is all off of mine. What was used to paint these wheels?

Here's a pic - the true color was more like rim closest to shift knob, the flash lighted pic

I recently refurbished and painted it (diffrent color) came nice.

I would suggest you just sand it w over a thousand grit and then re paint it. Of course wheel needs to be out of car.

Obviously, utilizing a photograph to duplicate a color is perhaps one of the poorest ideas to embrace.
If at all possible, find a place where the correct color has yet to be worn away and / or faded significantly from sun exposure, etc.
I may be able to help with formulas I have derived from authentic pieces.

What was the formula for the paint? Where did you get the paint?

If you have the formula for the rim paint I would appreciate getting that. Where did you get the paint?

Let me look if I still have it. This particular car I had done about 4 years ago.

Do the colors on your photo match the actual colors of your wheel? The photo shows the rim darker than others I've seen and the hub looks nearly black.

Thank-you,

John
