34 starter switch
So I need a replacement starter switch for my 34 Roadster. With the dozens for sale, say, on EBay, how do I know I am getting one that actually works? No listings mention that their units are in working order...

Re: 34 starter switch
Since most of the them on offer are either NOS or NORS, there's a fair chance that they actually work.

Re: 34 starter switch
I just ran across a NOS one in my "stash" of parts I'm selling off. P.M. me.

Re: 34 starter switch
Ok Larson, I will buy yours as I trust you. Can you get it to me quickly so I don’t go into convulsions? I will PM
And while we are at it, I know what NOS is, but what is NORS? |

Re: 34 starter switch
NORS is a non-OEM part that was sold as a replacement.

Re: 34 starter switch
So one weird thing that is happening. And maybe there is a logical explanation. Or I am just inexperienced, but I thought this car was NEGATIVE ground when I bought it, but I didn’t label any battery cables, terminals etc when I broke it down. So now putting it back together, the lights come on and the starter spins when I have the battery either polarity...
I cannot try to fire up the engine right now because there is no exhaust on it and don’t want to blow out the neighbors, having it towed tomorrow to the muffler shop. If I guess wrong after the exhaust is on, could I damage something, or simply just reverse it ? |

Re: 34 starter switch
The generator is the most likely thing to be damaged, and if the generator is providing reverse polarity to the battery, that is not good.

Starters, lights and switches are some of the things that function normally, no matter the polarity. Starters are either a permanent-magnet or a series-parallel wound motor, such that they will always spin the proper direction. DD |

Re: 34 starter switch
OK, think I misunderstood the question!!! What coop said. Does it have an ammeter? Which way is it pointing? Unless the generator has been changed or modified it should be positive ground.

Re: 34 starter switch
So it turned out to be a simple fix, one that I cannot take credit for, my friends at Natales Auto in Monterey did it:
The wire from the dash resistor board to the coil was loose...! Bam! Started up right away, runs like a champ. And it is POSITIVE ground. So now I will be able to sleep tonight... |
