Default wiring question?

The double yellow wires coming from the light swithch which normally connect to the cutout.......what do you do with them if you have an alternator instead of generator?

The alternator is no different than the generator except that it does not have an external cutout. One wire will go from the alternator to the light switch to power the lights and the other will go to the junction box on the dash and through the ammeter to the foot starter switch or the add on fuse near the starter switch if you have one. The generator, or alternator, supplies power to the lights directly and to the battery for charging through the ammeter. When the engine is not running the battery will supply power to the lights through the ammeter, showing a discharge current.

Hope this helps. I suggest you get a wiring diagram from one of the books available or online.

so the answer is that they connect to the same post on the alternator as the yellow/black wire from the terminal box?

Some Headlight Wiring Harnesses only have one wire which attaches to the cutout. In that case, the Horn wire is powered at a junction inside the switch assembly. The better harnesses have 2 wires that connect to the Cutout. One of them goes directly to power the Horn. The other wire goes to the Light Switch to power the Lights. The wire going to the Junction Box is a separate wire. All the wires ( 2 or 3) go the Battery Post on the Alternator.

There should be two connections to the alternator. One is a Yellow Wire going to the Ammeter via the Terminal Box, and the other is branch of the Lighting Harness which goes into the Light Switch on the bottom of the steering Column. This hookup is the same for 6V and 12V systems.
