'55 Ford car speedometer housing
I have seen a few '55 Crown Vics and convertibles that had the speedometer housing/surround chrome plated. Have also seen some headlight surrounds that were chrome plated. Was this an original option or did somebody have these pieces chromed as a custom touch?

Custom as far as I know.
There was an optional chrome 'eyebrow' trim headlight door on some '55 models. Last edited by dmsfrr; 02-19-2021 at 04:49 PM. |

Re: '55 Ford car speedometer housing
The eyebrow trim came on Fairlane's. Mainline and Customline were plain.

1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria with the standard head light trim. This trim was only standard on the Fairlane models. |

Re: '55 Ford car speedometer housing
Ford Australia kept pace with the USA and introduced the new models around midway though the actual year. That was until 1957 when Ford Australia decided to "update" the current 1956 Ford Customline Sedan (the only model that was offered here besides the Mainline Ute) instead if offering the "all-new" 1957 models. For the upgrade, they used the side trim from the 1956 Ford Fairlane, added a large V8 badge in the grille and added full chrome headlight trims, and different hood trim. The attached photos are of a restored Australian 1957 Ford Customline Sedan. |
