Default 48 F1 grill bars

Howdy boys, I've been trying to figure out why my grill bars are stainless, but everything I've read about the early F1's is they were painted silver, with a red stripe. I know there is an expert out there somewhere! My grandad bought this rig new, so I'm sure it was stock when I got it. Thanks guys!

I looked in the parts book and it shows Special Equipment.
Intermediate Moulding Radiator Grille Cross Bar 7C-8334,
bottom 7C-8345.
