6volt coil question.
HI guys can any one tell me the OHM range for the 6 volt ign. coil in a model A.I have a few spares and want to test them to see if they are keepers. thanks THE HOOCH

The primary side coil should be close to 1.5 Ohms.

The secondary should be about 10Kohms plus or minus 1K.

Keep in mind that an ohmmeter will tell you if its definately bad. But it won't tell you if its definitly good. You need a proper coil tester to do that. Here is a short video showing how mine works for testing coils and condensers.

Just finished testing about 25 coils, majority were junk. Cold they almost all uniformly push a 6.5 on the 'Good' scale, but hot they fail @ 3.0 'Bad' ....translated, they will start your car but not bring you back home. (Herbrand 660 coil tester) It was suggested to me last evening, IF you find a 'good one', save it for shows but drive on a new repo. Your Mileage May Vary |
