Default Safety alert!

Check your A-14487 wire connectors. Some of them have conductive insulation and can cause fires. We've had a bunch of trouble on Dad's '29 AA.

Here is a job for some electrical tape. If applied carefully it shouldn't be too obtrusive.

That's not good. Moss Motors has the same style of connectors for British cars. As long as you're not going for a show car these do fine. It's what I used on my Tudor.

Stagger the connectors and tie up carefully and it should be safe enough. Maybe a coat of shellac or tape for added resistance.

I vaguely remember seeing/ reading something about that in the past. Michael from Third Gen may have chimed in on the issue, but I could be totally mistaken.

FWIW - I rewired the tail lights on my '31 CCPU about 8 months ago. I used what appears to be the same connectors. So I just went out and checked them with my trusty Simpson 260 meter. They were good, had infinite resistance - whew! Mine came from either Snyders or Brattons, I don't recall now. But apparently there are different versions out there.

Either the buyer or manufacturer made a mistake.

Rubber compounds are non-conductive unless they are specified to be conductive.

Conductive rubber is more expensive because it requires the addition of silver, carbon, iron, or some other conductive material.

I worked on a project with clean hydraulic oil passing through typical hydraulic hoses and we were getting hose leaks.

We could see static electrical discharges burning holes through the hoses in the dark.

When we changed the hoses to conductive rubber, there were no more leaks.

This reminds me of using vacuum hose for a coil wire. It works! Get some vacuum hose the same diameter as a coil wire and install. as long as it doesn't touch metal and short out, the engine runs just fine.

I had this same problem. The more you squished them together, the more they would conduct. I had current leakage between circuits that I traced to the bundle going through the firewall.

One must be careful when attempting to use any black rubber as an electrical insulator. I learned this after an exasperating experience tracking down a mis-fire on an old outboard motor. A short piece of black rubber hose had been used as a gromet in the metal mag plate close to the secondary tab of the ignition coil. Long story short, the rubber was conductive. I suspect that carbon is used as a low-cost filler in some rubber products. If in doubt, check the resistance with your ohm meter.

Some electrical grease will help. Keeps the moisture out of the connector.

Obviously not using these is the solution, but if in a bind and need to use, then a layer of shrink wrap same length shrunk down over the connector will help with electrical insulation

Sent the one's I bought for my truck back to the seller and they replaced them very promptly with quality replacements. I still have to get all of the others out of Dad's truck and send them back. We thought we had all of them shrink wrapped or electrical taped, but on a shakedown run we had issues, so out they come.

Also found the same conductive insulators on a new wiring harness for my wife's 1941 pickup. The harness was built by a very reputable manufacturer who was very distraught to hear of the issue. I don't think this is a matter of one parts supplier, I think the suppliers are all buying from the same Chinese manufacturer.
