Default 1930 Ford Car Radios

Would anybody know anything about this Volume 15 April 1934 Ford Service Bulletin. I am trying to find out more information on the 1932 &33 Grisby & Grunow Model 111-40 car radios, which I believe it contains.

cas3, Why is it not a model 40 (1933-34) Ford ? It is a 1934 Cabriolet. Regards, Kevin.

Ian, I have that service bulletin [Canadian], same photo on front page, has heaps of info on 40-18805-B and 40-18805-D glove box radios, but is dated Vol 14 July 1934 No.13

The bulletin covers the 32 radio as well as two glove box radios and two police radios all made by Grigsby-Grunow. It also covers one glove box radio made by Zenith.

The next Service Bulletin May/June 1934 V15, #4 covers the ash tray radio

The EV8 club magazine featured a excellent in depth article on the 32 radios several years ago. That system is totally different from the 33 and 34 radios. As I understand it, 33 radios were glove box and most 34 radios were ash tray.

jimTN,

The two different glove box radios were released in August, 1933 with more than half of '33 model year production in the U.S. already history. Ford's radio offering for the '33 models prior to that time was the carryover late-release '32 radio with the major difference being a much-simpler mounting of the speaker box on the inside of the firewall. The floor pans of the '33s have the locations for the cut outs for the two steel boxes that housed the motor generator and receiver of the '32-early '33 G&G Model 111-40 radios stamped into them.

Similarly, the ash tray radio was not released into well into the '34 model year, so only one of the glove box radios would be appropriate for an early production '34.

Thanks David. Thats interesting about the two glovebox radios. I will have to check on mine to see which I have. I bought a GB radio for a friend off of epay who put it in a 34 roadster. It had a interesting history, came from England and was boxed with wood to be used as a household radio with battery clips. Guess it was a war time conversion. I had a friend going over on business and he brought it back. I always thought it was a 33 radio but anyway it worked fine when installed.
