Jamco steering linkage upgrading
Howdy,
Got a Jamco upgrading stuff, paid a whole bunch os money and just can’t use it. The left tie rod sleeve hits the pitman arm pivot/grease fitting when I steer to left. My 51 coupe is all original, correct oil pan and no lowered. It seems it needs to put the car up some 3 inches to that sleeve clears the pitman pivot. Did I trown almost 400 bucks in the trash or it might have cure? Thanks a bunch |

Re: Jamco steering linkage upgrading
The fabulous VanPelt Sales website has parts drawings, if that would help.
I found two for the 1951 Ford car that show the pitman arm with number 3590. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...teeringear.htm

Virtually ALL Pitman arms are 3590s in Ford parts talk, even today. The prefix is what determines year/application, as in "21A-3590" for a '42-'48 Pitman arm. Coop/AMERICAN . |

Re: Jamco steering linkage upgrading
In fact, 49 pitman arms are slightly different from 50/51. 49’s are a bit straight (less curved) then 50/51’s. An attempting to decrease bump steer!!
Only one letter (“A” I think) plus is the difference between the years. Will try again to set that Jamco linkage, I’d hate trown it away after spend a high $ on it. |

Re: Jamco steering linkage upgrading
I just read on the Shoebox site on FB that the current Jamco kit uses a corvette idler arm and there are fitment issues. The earlier kits which worked well, used an AMC idler arm until Moog (and others) discontinued them.

Re: Jamco steering linkage upgrading
51er: THE FOLLOWING INFO. MAY HELP.
BE SURE TO READ THIS ARTICLE LISTED BELOW. It says that the linkage tie rod ends have to be installed upside down. IT ALSO HAS PART NUMBERS AND PHOTOS. HERE"S THE ARTICLE. HOPE IT HELPS. You might also try to contact the folks who wrote the article. https://www.aaronstarnes.com/49-ford...what-steers-us Also, if you GOOGLE the MOOG tie rod end part numbers you will find vendors that hopefully stilll have the AMC idler arms. MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO BUY SPARES NOW. GOOGLE: MOOG 416R and MOOG ES416L Last edited by 19Fordy; 06-02-2022 at 11:03 AM. |

Re: Jamco steering linkage upgrading
Well, it’s seems to be too hard to move for a part with needle bearings, it seems to have a very tight nylon bushing or something like that, because it made the steer even harder. Talking about the idler arm of course.
