Default 8ba Inlet Manifold Under carb Vacuum.

So just had my 8BA engine manifold vapor blasted. Came up real good.
My friend who did ths pointed out the following: The vacuum port below the carb for wipers and distributor vaccum is clear through to left hand side carb barrel only. In right hand side barrel there is a hole similar to LHS but this one is "blind" and does not go through to inlet as does LHS passage.
My thinking is to drill through into RHS port as with these passages from LHS & RHS then more vaccum will be gained.
Am I right with this? First time I have had this inlet manifold off. Removed to fit a PCV valve at road draught tube location.
Appreciate advice

The stock loadomatic distributor does not use the wiper vacuum port for vacuum. It connects to a vacuum port on the carburetor.
You can drill a hole if you choose but it is most likely a waste of more time.

No loadomatic distributor, a Chev distributor with adjustable vaccum advance.
Looking at it I believe both should be connected or why have the hole in RHS manifold throat??

Too bad you didn't state that to begin with but go ahead and drill the second hole, just to see if it makes any difference. (it can't hurt it)

The thing I am really asking is was the hole under the carb common to both intake barrels.
As the Hole in RHS is located at same location as LHS. ??

This is how the holes on a Merc. manifold are located.

Thats how I would have expected my 8ba inlet manifold to be set up.
The hole location is the same except RHS not completely clear this is the one I will drill as passage iis not clear.

Just looked at 2 8BA manifolds I have here & they both have the holes drilled to both sides.

I had a PCV setup using that vac connection, and opened the two drillings up to 1/8" or 3/16" for better flow. They are really small from the factory.

Yes will drill the one that is not right through and use this for my vaccum gauge,
distributor advance and wipers. Will driil a separate for the PCV valve as manifold is off the vehicle. Had it vapor blasted.
thanks

Sorted!
The hole through to RHS barrel was in fact blocked from fitting side. Cleared it and drill both 1/8" . Then drilled another at RHS rear of barrel. This one will be tapped 1/4" gas
for PCV valve fitment.
Appreciate all assistance for this great site!
