Pictures V8 Diff.
I would appreciate some input and pictures of a V8 rear axle. I’m contemplating installing one in my Model A and I know that the spring is attached to the rear of the axle instead of on top like the Model A does. I would appreciate some pictures of the V8 diff

This picture is of a 39 Lincoln Zephyr but it mounts the same as the Ford.

Not an answer but a question, why are you contemplating this change? The answer may stir up some valuable advice.

Re: Pictures V8 Diff.
Charlie, I am contemplating this because I am considering adding enough power that the Model A diff won’t be up to it and an extremely experienced guy I met suggest the V8 diff as a possible alternative (unfortunately he is not somebody I know personally so I can’t ask him more questions). If the driveshaft length and the tires in the wheel well’s are to be kept in the original then something has to be done with the spring. Either move the spring or move (or add) the crossmember. I want to stay with my ‘35 wire wheels which limits options. Thank you 19

Re: Pictures V8 Diff.
Easiest would be adapting your A spring to the V-8 axle (get a '40 or earlier). Millworks sells some bolt on mounts.
https://www.millworkshotrod.com/prod...14329173180461 You can also trim similar pieces off Model A axle bells; just need to find some with bad bearing surfaces; but good spring perches. You need to shorten the V-8 torque tube along with the rear radius rods; not a big deal. '42-'48 radius rods take a little less work as they are short enough; just have to relocate the tab on torque tube. |

Re: Pictures V8 Diff.
Well Rich, I’m finally (at 65) taking welding classes so as to maybe be able to do those things. Seth, I’m not sure, I have an aluminum Buick (actually an Olds) 215 that would be kinda cool (4X the HP and 100# lighter) I haven’t opened it up yet so I don’t know if it’s usable. I also have a B motor with enough mods to be in the 100hp range. Whatever motor I use I am going to use a T5. I would really like to build 2 or 3 to play around with the various options but I’m limited to one at a time and I want to be driving it not build it and sell it and start over.
