Wink I Think I Can Tour

The Model A Ford Club of Colorado will be departing Denver on the “I Think I Can” Tour on Saturday morning, 6 September. We will be driving fifteen (15) Model As on the seven day, six night tour, traveling a little over 1,000 miles. We will conquer six Rocky Mountain Passes (Kenosha, Trout, Poncha, Wolf Creek, Yellow Jacket and Vail), view a 100 foot mountain water fall, ride a Historic Steam Train, tour the Train’s Maintenance Shop, visit three National Parks (Mesa Verde, Arches, Colorado National Monument), travel the Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway (it is paved), enjoy a Western Movie Museum as we have lunch in Monument Valley, visit Dinosaur Journey Museum, and tour a vineyard with the opportunity to purchase some of Colorado’s (& Utah’s) finest wine. Who could ask for more!!!
If the topic is acceptable to FordBarn, I will try to provide updates to this thread as we progress on our journey.

Wish us Luck! Bob

We all have extra parts, I now carry a clutch. All paved roads, except for the Railroad trip from Durango Silverton. Whitewalls always welcome!

Have a great time. I might just tag along the end of this thread with the Northern Colorado Models A's Trip to the Black Hills, in about 2 1/2 weeks.

Day 1:
We arrived in Pagosa Springs after a 290 mile trip over Kenosha, Trout Creek, Poncha and Wolfe Creek Passes. Great Travel Day, Sunshine, temp in Mid 70s ......until Wolfe Creek Pass, where we were met with pouring rain. Tough pull, but we all made the summitt, then the storm cleared for the trip into Pagosa Springs. We did have one mechanical problem, broken Crankshaft Pulley. We are going to stop in Durango at a FordBarn Members place to complete the repair tomorrow. Some Pictures along the way are below, This is a fun trip with good people and beautiful sights.

Beautiful scenery.

Never heard of a crank pulley breaking while driving. Did the belt break and tangle in it?

A piece (big chunk) broke out by the key way, caused bad vibration. I had not seen that before. May have happened when installing/tightening?

Yep, I've seen that happen during installation of the pulley. You need to be certain the key is in position and the pulley engages it without pushing it out of place. If pushing the pulley into place makes the key rock up a bit, then it binds and breaks the pulley sleeve. Or it may crack the sleeve and not be noticed until some time later. This is why it's best to install the pulley with the cover or pan off, so you can watch the key as the pulley is slid into position.

Coming down from Wolfe Creek Pass, remembering the 70s C.W. McCall song about a 18-Wheeler coing down without brakes. All safe and sound for us.
