Default Is this an air cleaner or a...?

Ladies and Gents,
Is this an air cleaner or some sort of heater apparatus? It came along with my 36 Fordor.

Thanks,
T

It's most of a heavy duty oil bath air filter. It appears the bottom is absent.
And it is likely that it has been modified a bit.
I believe, but am not 100% certain, this is pre 1937.
I'm confident there are those here on the Barn that can dictate correct applicable years.

As kube said its a Heavy Duty Air Cleaner.....here is one on our 35 German Ford for comparison. AS Kube also stated I have personally seen them on and up to 1936 but I would imagine that they could/would have been used on 37 and probably on past that. Our 35 Ute also has one, I have seen them quite frequently On Aussie Utes as they were probably very common for cars destined for the "Out Back" of Australia. Maybe MercManfromOZ will have photo's of some on the later V8's???

Rockfla, Thanks for adding to this discussion.
I believe the design was changed for '37 forward to what I have depicted in the attached photograph..

I believe this is what a complete assembly looks like. I got this when I was helping the widow of a friend of a friend dispose of some of her deceased husbands parts stash. He was into 32-34 pickups but when I asked around I was told that it wasn't 32-34. So I'm not sure what its from, just know I still have it.

I have not seen that style, thanks for sharing that (add to my archive)!!! Maybe that why I've only seen the one up to 36 then!!! Damn fine day when you learn each and every day!!!!

IF memory serves me correct DAVIDG's 33 4cyl coupe he is restoring has the HD Air flilter so it just wasn't strictly a V8 "thing".

The one i got has the flat top on the air duct. Its missing the mounting bracket. I think i took it off a truck but sorta recall it was a 6 cyl.

When did the truck carburetor change the top of the air horn to the bevel style?
