Default License Plate Paint

In the process of restoring a set of 1930 Ohio plates for my 'A'. I believe the color for 1930 was burgundy background with white letters. At the moment they're soaking in some Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath. Once that's done, does anyone have a good source for paint of the right type and color? I have a local Sherwin-Williams Automotive Paint store that has a computerized system to match the paint. Got a better idea?

Napa can mix it and put it in a rattle can, well at least they have for me. Is that a better idea?

You might try here to get the color: http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/ Since what you see involves a camera and then your computer monitor to add distortion to the color you might buy a single plate at a swap meet (or borrow one) and then have that color scanned by a paint dealer. You might even be able to talk a plate dealer into "renting" you a single plate.

I have found that the license plate colors were the plain vanilla if it was red it wasn't shaded to orange or blue. Light blue is now referred to as colonial blue referencing the past light blue. Dark yellow is like road stripe yellow, burgundy would be a text book formula for burgundy. Sign paint or striping paint would be mixed to standard formulas eg.. red, carmine, vermillion, & scarlet, all a specific red.

Burgundy 7768830 - 12 oz. Spray

There is a good thread on the lettering technique which I tried my amature hand at with pretty good results.

I just tried a lic.plate restoration with a 1930 Pa plate. I found out that Caterpillar orange worked well. As has been said, these lic. plate colors are not hard to duplicate or find in today's inventories. Check mine out, go to my albums and find it there.

I am going to restore my 1930 tag and wanted to find a reflective paint for the numbers. The tag color is the same as my truck or very close to it.

The Caterpillar yellow is the background, the numbers and letters are black. Go to my profile, then my albums and there's pictures with descriptions. I've seen a fair number of early thirties plates and they all seemed to be same as far as colors.
