40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
I'm restoring my 40 hot water heater.
What amperage does the stock 6V motor draw on high speed? Thanks in advance! |

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
Well I don't have a 40 car heater to test but I would expect somewhere around 4 amps on 6 volt system. Regards, Kevin.

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
Highest current draw will be at start up of the fan.

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
Thanks.
So does anyone have that spec? Just need it for appropriate fusing and voltage drop. Can't hook it up right now to check it. Thanks! |

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
Interesting. They mention a circuit breaker in the parts list but nowhere else is it mentioned. From what I could gather it was just connected to the ignition switch.

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
A fuse is to protect the wiring, you select a fuse size that will match the wiring gauge. With a motor start up you might use a slightly larger fuse for the start up current or at least a slow blow fuse. If it turns out the fuse is to small, increase the size with the replacement.

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
Bill out of curiosity to this question I checked a NOS motor tonight and it pulled 7 amps at first start up and settled at 4.8 amps.

Re: 40 Heater Fan Motor Draw??
Again just curious; engine running showing amp meter charging. Turn on heater and
test the plus side of the heater switch and test the 'out going to the motor' heater on full or high- with a volt meter. No wonder I'm freezing I get about 4-5 volts and my generator putting 7 plus volts 20 amps fast idle. So with a long #10 ga. jumper from the battery and jump the 'out motor terminal' at the switch, now the motor is now delivering air and sounds like a heater. I suspect the switch with its resistors is gone south because if I put switch on 'low' the fan barely turns. this is a 1946 and this switch is not like what's in the shop book. My high heat is 11 o'clock and defrost is 1 o'clock. Not what the book says, which is 1 o'clock heat and 11 o'clock defrost??? And the switch looks or is a normal FoMoCo switch. Thats the way I bought it. so any one know what my switch come from? And note, my 1949 F8 6vt pos grd. heater switch is, turn right heat, left defroster, and it will burn ya boots off. Think I will put a simple toggle switch there so I get heat: Ideas for pricey hard to get, these switches yes they pop on ebay time to time and venders but its the old "what if" Just ramblin on again. back to this post, I worry more about the supplied volts than amps. sam |
